I joined the volunteer crew at FoodCycle Mitcham as a host for the Thursday evening meal service. Working with the team I set the tables, kept guests topped up with teas and coffees, served a stunning 3-course meal and cleaned up. The crew and the guests were all very welcoming and I felt very fortunate to join in on enjoying some of the delicious food myself! The 14 guests were all delighted with the food, especially the carrot cake - I don't think anyone turned down seconds!

Foodcycle Mitcham
FoodCycle Mitcham is a community project that transforms surplus food into free, nutritious meals, offering a welcoming space every Thursday evening at Togetherness Community Centre for anyone seeking food and companionship.

FoodCycle Mitcham is a community initiative that addresses food poverty, social isolation, and food waste by providing free, nutritious meals to anyone in need. Operating every Thursday evening at the Togetherness Community Centre in Mitcham, the project welcomes guests from all walks of life to share a hot meal and engage in friendly conversation in a warm, inclusive environment. The meals are prepared by dedicated volunteers using surplus food collected from local supermarkets and grocers, ensuring that perfectly edible food is diverted from landfill and put to good use. Volunteers take on various roles, including cooking, hosting, and food collection, all contributing to the creation of a welcoming space where guests can enjoy both nourishment and companionship. By fostering connections among community members and promoting sustainability, FoodCycle Mitcham not only provides immediate support to those facing hardship but also works towards building a more resilient and connected local community.
