Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Redbridge runner
On a fine morning, six super people got together to help clean our local park.
Valentines Park is the largest green space in Redbridge and has many different things to see. A real gem in our borough - it includes a boating lake, a dry garden, an aviary, 2 cafe's, and a 300 year old mansion! It's claim to fame included the filming of Celebrity Bake Off.
Following the Parkrun, GoodGym sprang into action. Equipped with brand new litter pickers courtesy of Senior Park Ranger, Chris, we separated into pairs to focus on different areas of the large (52 acre) park. The park is especially full of litter during the school holidays, however there was still plenty to keep us occupied.
Our first piece of rubbish were the boxes to the litter pickers! James and volunteer Amita headed away to explore areas away from our start location. Linda and Sharon concentrated on the perimeter of the play area (which seemed to have an unusually high number of cigarette butts). Kathryn and Dharmesh concentrated on the cafe side and then towards Valentines Mansion.
Among the goodies left behind were pizza boxes, bottle caps, chocolate wrappers and tissues. With an hour of litter picking completed, we headed for breakfast in the cafe. Discussions included: World Car Free Day, open water swimming, and beginners cycling at Fairlop Waters!
What a SUPER SATURDAY!
ps. Thanks Linda for washing our GG Redbridge gloves - they have many more good deeds left in them thanks to you!
