Arrived early for my 1030am shift and noticed some Ealing soup kitchen volunteers arriving, so took the opportunity to introduce myself. As a grocery delivery arrived at the same time, we took all the crates down the ramp into the building. Got introduced to Angela and everyone was expecting Steph, but a female version which made everyone giggle. I was shown around and then assigned to different tasks before the opening of the kitchen and the food/clothes take away at 1pm. I went from unloading crates to the following tasks such as preparing tables for the eaters later with putting plates of sweet and salty savouries, bananas, salt for the meals , sugar for the hot drinks, rolling napkins with cutlery. Refilled both sugar and salt containers. As the tables in the kitchen were ready, went to sort out boxes, crates in Angela s office and move things around to make space and use what we needed for the shifts. Layed out tables for the clothes to be spread ready for collection. Once opened, I was crowd managing, helping give food bags, clearing tables in the kitchen and meet a lady who was speaking French. As being French myself spoke with her in her native language which made her super happy and smiley. She know wants me back at Ealing soup kitchen. Also cleared boxes and rubbish during the shift with recycling . Stayed a bit later as helped with heavy boxes in the office. Great day at Ealing Soup Kitchen and I have to say there was a great smell in the eating area. Meat with vegetables on the menu with ravioli option for vegetarians. Desert had a choice of peaches with custard or a refeshing watermelon.
