The Barrow-ers... !!

Lambeth Report written by Yianny (he / him)

A change is a s good as a break as they say so last night we changed things up and set off from a new running location. Our task was in West Norwood which is the outer limit of our run distances from Brixton but we needed to be there as early as possible as we had a lot to get through.

AA Yianny met Louise in Tulse Hill and set off from there with the rest of the group meeting directly at the task either walking or on their bikes.

Ed from Lambeth GP Food Co-Op was there to meet us and had two wheelbarrows and 5 shovels ready for action, with our task being to get the compost from the one tonne bags over to the two remaining empty planters at the top of the hill. Marie-Noelle led the shovel and tip team, Louise and Tilly kept the compost coming from the bags and Paul, Will and Yianny took the wheelbarrow relays.

The group divided into two with half loading and walk / running the barrows up the hill and the rest shovelling and tipping the compost into the planters. One hour later and after too many trips to and fro to count the two planters were over half full and ready to be used for planting by the patients of the GP Practice at West Norwood.

Sadly this evening was Will's last for a little while as he heads back home to Stroud for a few months, it's been fantastic having you with us and we look forward to your return in the New Year!

Thanks to all and to Ed for hosting us and see you next week!

Thank You Very Mulch !!

Lambeth Report written by Yianny (he / him)

Last night you could feel something in the air down at Papa's Park, not figuratively but literally as a group of boys were letting off fireworks in the streets and showering us with sparks!

Appropriately we also had a community meeting against anti-social behaviour in the hall meaning we had plenty of company at our introduction.

With Kaz and Will's bikes safely locked together we were able to set off on a pleasant evening run the flat way through Brockwell Park to our venue at Trinity Rise. We were met there by Marie-Noelle, Paul, Alice and one of Nicole's committee volunteers to give all the greenery a big old haircut.

With a decent sized group we set about trimming, cutting, pulling ivy, avoiding spiky bits, barrowing wood mulch and raking it all into place. By the end of the hour a huge amount of green waste was bagged and ready for collection by the council (see pics) and we would head off in different directions with only AA Yianny, Kaz and Will heading back to Papa's and the rest off home for a well deserved rest.

Thanks to Nicole for providing all the tools we could possibly need and see you all at the next one!

Rain Rain Here to Stay....

Lambeth Report written by Yianny (he / him)

Looks like summer is coming to a close after such a short time but still a bumper group of GGers turned out to head over and help Juan out prepare Jubilee Primary for the new school term!

Pre-run discussion took in preparations for marathons and half marathons of our runners so a huge wish of Good Luck to Tilly, Michael and Joao as they head ever closer to race days.

To stay on theme our category for this evening is favourite nursery rhyme (wheels on the bus is the answer btw!)

It's almost exactly 1.5kms (flat) to Jubilee Primary so we made good time and had a bit of a wait while someone came to open up for us but we were able to get cracking with our hands as the planter was on the outside of the school. We were also joined by Marie-Noelle and Paul who walked to the session.

Once the very kind lady cam to open so we could access the tools we found that they were all children's size and of course nothing sharp but still useful and of course plenty of black bags to put the waste into.

There was a lot of greenery to get through and of course plenty of litter but in the 45 minutes we had the whole thing was cleared and is now ready to be re-planted.

A big thank you to all and a reminder that next week we will be meeting directly at the task in West Norwood so please don't come to Papa's Park beforehand.

Say Cheeeese!

Lambeth Report written by Yianny (he / him)

Last night we were back at Trinity Gardens to help out around the church. It was a perfect summer evening with warm weather and golden light so a real pleasure to run in!

Will met AA Yianny at Papa's and we engaged with diverse Brixtonites who were out in force enjoying the sunshine. We chatted with an Eritrean group havi by a party and and a local bike enthusiast with some deep life advice for young people (Will not Yianny obvs!)

Sadly we missed Sarah this evening as we had set off by 7pm which was a shame - see you at next week's Sarah.

Nicole was waiting for us when we arrived with refreshments and all the tools we would need for the task while Maya, Marie-Noelle and Paul all joined us at the task.

This evening we were looking to clear all the weeds from the square in front of the church and then lay the wood chip on top. With various implements we were able to scrape, pull, clip and bag as much weedlife as possible.

By the end of the hour we tidied up and looked back at a job well done. Time for the triumphant group selfie (thanks to Maya for the pics) and also Marie-Noelle for bringing some La Tome cheese from France for us!!

See you next time team!
