There were 14 in the beds and the little one said...

Coventry Report written by Laura Denham

Tonight was amazing with 14 GoodGymers turning up, we love it at the Food Union allotments don't we gang?! We also welcomed back Jill for her second good deed, yey!

Jackie, James, Nigel and Stuart had arranged to meet us at the allotments, Megan and Tasha took a nice walk and the rest of the group enjoyed a sunny run to the task. Great to be out enjoying the nice weather and lighter nights!

We hit the allotments, facing 5 unruly beds crying out for attention. In 45 minutes we very nearly aced the job that would have taken them several hours. With weeding and composting we made a huge improvement and Marc was very happy with what we got done. Team GG Cov, smashing it!

Next Tuesday we will be at Harmony Haven which is a family hub in Hillfields https://www.goodgym.org/v3/sessions/harmony-haven-garden-revival

Paint no sunshine…

Coventry Report written by Laura P (she/her)

Five Goodgymers walked to Clothing Coventry this evening, but not for the usual sorting and sizing tasks! This week we put on our least favourite running leggings and shoes for a painting task! In preparation for a new member of staff starting soon, our task was to give the office space a fresh lick of white paint. Armed with sandpaper, rollers and brushes, we quickly got to work on painting and had soon given the room a first coat, although it looks like it will need at least one more coat before it is ready to be used as an office again. We will be back soon to finish the job!

Natasha Frazer earned their community cape by completing their first community mission.

Natasha completed a community mission. Instead of watching TV or lying in bed, Natasha was out there making their community a better place to be. For making that choice they have earned the community cape.

Did we Go Banana's or Keep Calm and Carrot On?

Coventry Report written by Laura Denham

Tonight a squad of 10 Goodgymers made their way over to Carriers of hope, ready and raring to go. We welcomed Jill Ashley on her first good deed, it was great to meet you :)

Our first mission? Bagging up fruit and veg for tomorrows food hub. With the precision of a well oiled machine the team formed a production line, stuffing bags with a range of items such as peppers, bananas, carrots and potatoes. Maddie, Georgia, Jill, Nigel zipped through the line up with the efficiency of seasoned pro's.

James did a 'crate job' of sifting through the crates to locate the larger ones, which Tasha then swiftly filled with the fruit and veg bags. Greame was appointed as bog roll commander skillfully packing up a duo of loo rolls per bag, ready for people to pick up with their bag of goodness tomorrow.

Stuart stepped onto the scene and was handed the mission of organizing the camping gear, with help from James and Nigel, and Laura rescued an empty tent bag which she decided could be an ideal litter picker holder! (it worked a treat as well - perfect fit!)

Maddie also completed some office work while the rest of the veg production line cleared up.

After taking the scenic route aka getting lost, Joe sauntered in just in time for the tea break - well played Joe! ha! At least you know where it is for next time!

Everyone did a fantastic job, well done gang!

See you next week for more doing good and keeping fit Laura x

Nice one to Maddie and Nigel for puns - I couldn't decide so went with both!

Weeding in the moonlight

Coventry Report written by Laura P (she/her)

On GoodGym Coventry's 5th birthday, 8 GoodGymers met at the Foleshill Library to support with their garden project. Our task for the evening was to shift three tonnes of soil from the pavement outside to the garden area to create a community garden space.

With three wheelbarrows, shovels and some GoodGym magic, we made quick work of moving the soil and spreading it into position by the light of the moon (and some phone torches!), and lots of weeds were removed from the borders too.

Well done all! We will be back at the library soon for more soil shifting and perhaps some digging next time too.
