World's strongest women

Wednesday 25th May 2022

Written by Helen Noyes

Four Good Gym stalwarts ran through sunny trails on a Wednesday evening to help Youth Movement Against Violence develop their memorial garden. It was sad to hear their progress had been slowed following thefts and vandalism. This only spurred us on and we flexed our muscles and began our World's Strongest Women masterclass. We shovelled, shifted, and dragged heavy loads of hard-core to fill giant planters. Nothing could stop us! And we still managed to run a beautiful cross country route home.

Groundbreaking work!

Wednesday 4th May 2022

Written by Rob Riley (he/him)

We had a number of firsts this week - it was the first task of May, the first time helping out at YMAV, and the first attendence of GG Leeds for Josie. Welcome to Leeds!

The run

Tonights run was a short, which gave us plenty of time to do a few different drills on the way.

First of all we started with a slow jog up the hill, then we did some high knees and skips, followed by a quick sprint. It got our hearts pumping and our legs turning - and even alerted one of us about their activity (on their watch)! It was just a false alarm, but safe to say it was a good workout.

Then we jogged the rest of the way to Meanwood Community Centre for the task.

The Task

Tonight we had lots of gravel to move to the community garden - so we were thankful to shovels and spades to do the job. We took it in turns shovelling and moving the gravel - whilst a team of two were ready to transfer the gravel into large containers. It truly was Goodgym vs the Shovel!

Fueled with a punnet of grapes - kindly given to us by the ladies at YMAV - we managed to shift 3/4 of a tonne of gravel! This will be used to build their commuity healing garden.

After a shakeout of the arms and legs, a few jumping squats and a few seconds of sprinting on the spot to prepare our legs , we returned back to HPBC.

It was a beautiful evening for both the run and the task.

See you next week :)
