Bus-iness as usual!

Monday 9th June

Written by Ellie (She/her)

An elite team of vehicle cleaners tonight meant we managed to clean not one, not two, not three, but four vehicles!! I think that might be a record?! Clearly all the practise we’ve had since we started helping Rose Road has paid off as we’re now so efficient. We left a sparkling fleet all ready to take the children and young people out for their summer trips. Hopefully they will be just as grubby next time so we know they’ve been on lots of adventures!

Sage the day!

Monday 19th May

Written by Ellie (She/her)

Tonight we had a last minute switch of task to tidy the car park flower beds up. We'll have to come back soon to sort out the Acorns garden again. Armed with many appropriate gardening tools and Sarah's chisel (trick of the trade!) we set to work. The flower beds are part of a sensory garden so we got to appreciate all the lovely smelling herbs as we tried to free then from the weeds. We don't know what was more tricky, getting the grass out of the dry soil or not pulling all the plants apart that were tangled in the bind weed! We were rewarded for our efforts with some lovely bunches of roses in need of new homes. We look forward to joining Rose Road again next month.

We cleaned the Rose Road vehicles - inside and out..... we were tasked with doing 2 maybe 3, cleaning the inside and then the outside if we had time, but many GG hands make light work and we managed to clean 4!

Well done team - you were all awesome 🤩🤩🤩

No mossing around!

Monday 24th March

Written by Ellie (She/her)

Many hands made light work this evening as we set about sprucing up some of the outdoor space for the respite centre at Rose Road. It was brilliant to have a real team effort after a few quiet Mondays and we almost had daylight for the whole session. Chris was the king of the lawnmower (not cans!) while the rest of the team cleared leaves, moss and weeds from the flower beds and patio area. It was great to see Leszek back again as we've missed him at our Monday night sessions. The respite garden looks almost ready for summer days outside now, but we’re hoping we get another chance before BBQ season is upon us as we spotted more weeds than we could manage in one session!

Everything's coming up roses

Monday 13th January

Written by Ellie (She/her)

We had a great turnout for our first session of the year at Rose Road including a special guest all the way from London, Ivo, the founder of GoodGym. We were tasked with sorting headbands which will be sold by the fundraising team at festivals during the summer. Many hands were needed as there were literally hundreds of every colour you could imagine and style. Yes crab is a style! In addition to the headbands we also had some creative hands working on a selfie frame of roses. We all agree our glue gunners did a fabulous job. A great indoor task for a chilly winters evening. We look forward to seeing what task Rose Road finds for us on our next visit!

That was a waste of time!

Monday 2nd December 2024

A trio of merry litter pickers set to work clearing the paths around Rose Road before our main group task this evening. Within only half a mile we managed to fill a whole rubbish sack and left the area looking much nicer for parents and young people visiting the centre. The best part was we got to use the fancy robot bin that chomps the litter at the end! Who would litter when the public bin is so good?!?!!
