Good Gym leading the way : less rubbish today!

Tuesday 19th September 2023

Written by Natalie (she/her )

We kicked off tonight with a different run route heading out past the other side of the waterfront with Natashaleading the charge.

As the planters were in fairly good shape today we pivoted and added in a litter-pick and headed back to the skate-park area of the waterfront where last time we filled six whole binbags full of detritus. On our arrival we were shocked - pleasantly surprised in fact - the area was relatively litter-free. Had our previous efforts been rewarded with people being more careful? Had we encouraged people to be more considerate? Well, can't be sure but we'll take it as a Good Gym 'win' ! Thanks Lucy and Natasha

Getting the hump at the rubbish dump

Tuesday 29th August 2023

Written by Natalie (she/her )

Today was the best of times and the worst of times! Due to the rain and planters looking in good shape, we pivoted and litter picked along the river.

Anyone who walks , runs or cycles along the river will know 'the spot' we are referring to, constantly being left in an absolute mess.

Lucy and Natashawere as usual not put off by getting their hands dirty and we were determined to leave the area near the skate park clear. Check out the 'before and after' photos courtesy of our in-house photographer, Lucy!

The best of humanity : a young gent saw what we were doing and equally upset about the rubbish went off to find a carrier bag and joined in unbeknown to us. 20 minutes later he walked past with a bag full to the brim. *happy face

I guess you could say, thats the power of GoodGym - leading the charge!

The worst of humanity - people flagrantly dropping litter in front of us picking it up. *sad face.

We hoped we sowed a few seeds that might register later.... fingers crossed.

Great run too ladies, along the waterfront and through the woods.

Well done, team!

Planters, pals and plotting …

Tuesday 15th August 2023

Written by Natalie (she/her )

A super social Good Gym Group run today on Ipswich waterfront as Lucygot the word out!

We started with a relaxed 4km loop along the Waterfront and river and was greeted by Clara on our return, keen to get the watering cans out. And then we introduced a few of Lucy’s pals to Good Gym and sowed the seeds for expanding the gang. And Cristina came along to cheer us over the line after work. A very friendly affair as the sun set in Ipswich.

Not just that but rumour has it a few GoodGymers are keen to work towards a 5km run and join us for that part too. A training run is coming soon ….. well done everyone!

Doing the can-can…

Tuesday 1st August 2023

Written by Natalie (she/her )

Doing the can-can ... that's watering cans and beer cans involved tonight as the waterfront planters got watered and de-littered.

The task started with a new run suggested by Lucy along the marina and through a beautiful woodland part of Holywells park. That route is a keeper! Lovely dappled light through the trees, streams and trails that were soft under foot and gentle on the knees!

After the 4km warm up, we hit the task with confidence having mastered the watering previously. A bit of gentle weeding, de-littering and the planters were back to their perky selves.

Great to see Natasha too and thanks for the patience as we nearly came a-cropper with an awkward padlock!

Great work!

40 planters in an hour? Yes, we (watering) can!!

Tuesday 18th July 2023

Written by Natalie (she/her )

Six Good Gymers made their way to Ipswich's beautiful waterfront to help maintain the uplifting planters made by Eden Rose Coppice Trust. Great to see LucyPaulNatashaClaraChristina and the logistics of this task made for much hilarity ... and wet feet!

Two teams were quickly established and the gang set about filling and rolling large water carriers up and down the waterfront, alongside filled watering cans. This task required some muscle and arms might be feeling it tomorrow!

But a rhythm was quickly established to get all the planters hydrated.

Thanks everyone for getting properly stuck in! Lucygreat work, capturing the task!

We wheeled away a pleasant hour....

Monday 28th June 2021

Written by Alan Bowley

On a muggy and sticky evening the intrepid Ipswich GG gang got down to work lifting and shifting logs at Brickmakers Wood.

Team Sycamore and Team Elm (we had two large piles of logs to move) pulled on their gloves and grabbed a wheelbarrow each to begin a sweaty 60 minutes of piling high.

New faces Alex and hardcore regulars created a human chain, as wave after wave of wheelbarrows climbed the dizzy heights of 75m total elevation and 2 miles of barrow pushing. It's on Strava so it happened!

Site manager, Jo Brooks, was delighted to see us back, knowing her wood piles were soon to be restored, as the Trust continues to transform a quiet corner of Ipswich into a calm, and tranquil oasis for cancer patients and their families.

We will back soon to see if we can improve on our team performance stats.

Well done everyone.
