Collabora-tin for the Food Bank Run

Thursday 23rd February 2023

Written by Laura Denham

5 GoodGymers joined forces tonight with 19 runners from Earlsdon Running Club this evening to deliver donations to Coventry Food Bank.

We met at Earlsdon Running Club HQ packed up with items from the list on the food bank website. We warmed up then set out on our 5k run.

We had arranged for Coventry food bank to meet us in a van in a central location so it was only a short run for us to carry our heavy load.

We met Dee, who works for CFB, at the van and unloaded the items which included tins, biscuits and tea bags. Once this was done we then continued our run back to base.

It was great to collaborate with another local running group for such a good cause and nice to run with a whole new bunch of people.

Thanks to everyone who made it out tonight in support of your local food bank. You are amazing!

Also a huge thanks to all the work that the food bank does, helping those in need.

It’s the last week of Feeding Coventry’s breakfast scheme!

Over the course of the summer holidays, thousands of boxes of nutritious breakfast foods and summer activities have been packed and distributed to some of the most vulnerable in our city.

It’s been great working with the different volunteers and getting stuck in with this project.

Lil went to support Feeding Coventry to help with their breakfast mission.

We spent the day squashing cardboard boxes and breaking down all the packaging that all the food and toy items come in, while the rest of the team packed the boxes.

Over the course of the morning, over 300 food boxes were made up and delivered around the city to the various hubs and community centres.

Cerealously Indispensable.

This week Coventry GoodGym had a new opportunity to work with Coventry Food Network in their mission to keep Coventry’s kids occupied and with full tummies.

The task involved working alongside a team of volunteers packing the breakfast and activity boxes. Each box provides nutritious breakfasts for 5 days (including breakfast cereal, milk, fresh fruit and small toys) and will be delivered to various community centres and churches throughout the city.

Once we’d be been briefed about how to operate safely in the warehouse environment, we set about packing the boxes.

Amy proved herself to be an expert with the tape dispenser and so put her skills to great use constructing hundreds of cardboards boxes for the food. Lil and the tape dispenser didn’t really get along, but luckily, there was lots of choice about where you could lend a hand as there was lots of items to pack into the boxes and plenty to do.

We had a quick pit stop at lunchtime and were back to it in the afternoon. By the end of the shift, we had packed close to 500 boxes which were all promptly collected for delivery and distribution to those most in need. After a quick clean up job and and collapsing down card for recycling, we were done. We’re looking forward to supporting this vital service this summer.
