Whatever the task, GoodGym Greenwich can 'handle' it!

Wednesday 19th November

Written by Sarah M

A Greenwich Maritime start for tonight's group run meant another chance to see the fab light show on a chilly November evening. 10 GoodGym-ers then made their way to St Richard's Church in Charlton.

We had a great selection of tasks, including outdoor weeding, plus cleaning upstairs with some vacuuming, mopping and dusting. Others in the group grabbed some tools and got on with some maintenance jobs fixing door handles and push plates. Contrary to popular belief we CAN handle the screws...

Tasks complete, everything turned out Hunky - Doory as we ended our mission with tea and cake to celebrate Jenny's whopping 500th good deed!

Welcome back to Aman for his second task with us- great to have you in the team!

Great work all & catch up soon 😃

Next week we're putting up Christmas decorations at Dee's Childcare!

What the Fog?! – A Mist-ical Morning at Charlton parkrun

Saturday 15th November

Written by Cecilia D🍀 (She/her)

It’s Saturday once again which can only mean one thing… parkrun day! This morning, three awesome GoodGymers stepped up to help at our local Charlton parkrun, proving once again that volunteering is just as energising as running.

Marta kicked things off with the pre-event set-up, making sure everything was in place before the first footsteps arrived. Jenny embraced the role of parkwalker, encouraging everyone along the course with calm steps and bright spirits. And me? I was proudly stationed as one of the marshals, cheering, directing, and soaking in the atmosphere.

It was a foggy start—so foggy I couldn’t help but say, “What the fog?!” But despite the misty mood, the weather stayed dry and mild—perfect conditions for a parkrun adventure.

By the end, I could honestly say: what a great way to start my morning and my weekend.

If you’ve ever thought about volunteering at parkrun, give it a try! There are loads of roles, all simple to learn and hugely rewarding. Whether you’re setting up the course, guiding runners, walking with participants, or cheering from a marshal point, everyone can get involved—and it’s highly recommended.

See you next Saturday for more miles, smiles. ~Cecilia D. 🍀

Goodgym Greenwich presents... Leaflets of the Fall...

Wednesday 12th November

Written by Sarah M

A rather spectacular light show greeted 6 GoodGym-ers at our meeting point at The Royal Naval College in Greenwich for tonight's task. The subject of the show was, ironically, time, which was something we didn't have to spare in order to find out more about the display.

So, onwards and upwards we pushed, through the swathes of autumn leaves, to the top of the Maze Hill area, where our task started, distributing leaflets advertising the Blackheath Age Exchange Christmas Fayre to the houses on several roads. Cue letterbox relays and lots of discussion over the huge range of buildings en route, in which the occupants are now hopefully discussing what a great event the Fayre will be...!

Mission accomplished, time had once again caught up with us and called for a group photo before going our separate ways.

Welcome Magdalena and Aman on your first group run & task! Hope to see you again soon!

Our task next week is at the St Richard's church, sign up here: https://www.goodgym.org/v3/sessions/helping-at-st-richard-s-centre

Have a great week all!

Sibling Support & Sunshine: A Heartwarming Junior Parkrun Tale

Sunday 9th November

Written by Cecilia D🍀 (She/her)

Two GoodGymers joined forces with the other dedicated parkrun volunteers to help support the junior parkrunners, ensuring their safety and making sure they had a fun, memorable experience.

The love and enthusiasm for junior parkrun continue to shine, no matter the weather! Despite the chilly morning, participants and volunteers alike were unstoppable, with sunshine greeting everyone as the event kicked off. It was truly heartwarming to see the dedication of siblings who came out to support each other. Not only were they cheered on by their parents, but they also came prepared with a positive attitude, ready to enjoy the event together.

One of the highlights was the warm-up session, which was led by some of the children themselves. It was a wonderful sight to see young participants confidently guiding the group and setting the tone for the event.

What truly captured the spirit of the day, though, was the way the younger siblings supported their older ones. It was so cute watching the little legs in their dresses racing alongside their older brothers and sisters, offering encouragement with every stride. It was clear that these young athletes are already learning the importance of teamwork and support at a very early age.

A special mention goes to two children who completed their 11th junior parkrun and earned their well-deserved wristbands. Congratulations on reaching that milestone.

It’s always a joy to be part of these events—so glad I came! What a fantastic way to kick off the day.

Until next time. Cecilia D 🍀

We CAN do it! (And without delay!)*

Sunday 9th November

Written by Felicity K

7 Goodgymers and two friends of Clean Up Charlton, including one of our local Councillors, met on a sunny morning in SE7 to make our streets a lot cleaner.

How much fun is litter-picking with friends? It CAN be lots of fun - we filled 4 bags of items for recycling and 12 bags in total, weaving our way around the roadworks in SE7. Well done to our smallest litter-picker - showing the Councillor how to deal with those plastic bottles and impressing him enough with the CAN-do attitude of GoodGym so that he joined our usual coffee session in M&S despite his busy day. Thanks to everyone for your hard work and your laughs!

*Check out the photos!
