GoodGym Runner

Tara has done their first good deed with GoodGym.

Tara is a now a fully fledged GoodGym runner. They've just run to do good for the first time. They are out there making amazing things happen and getting fit at the same time.

Hounslow Report written by Anastasia Hancock (she/her)

11 marvelous runners turned up to run 6k and do a freezing but really helpful job at a local community hub for our penultimate run of the year!

But first, the news

Please give Tara a massive cheer for coming on her first GoodGym run last night - welcome!

Hooray for Andy who is on his 150th good deed!

If you have some time on Friday, please do sign up for this community mission (no need to be DBS checked, just sign up and turn up!) for Evolve housing - it can't go ahead unless eight people sign up here!

Brrrilliant work

It was pretty chilly in Chiswick last night, so we got straight into our warm up (joined very enthusiastically by a special guest appearance) with lots of high knees, heel kicks, grapevines and skips. Before we set off, we asked the group about special hidden talents, and my goodness were there some serous skills! Ranging from being able to sign, sing and paint to an amazing demonstration of flexibility and even some jaw-dropping breakdancing!

For our 3k run down to Ealing Rd Church we took it at a good pace to try and stay warm, so arrived there in no time at all to find Pawel waiting for us with pots of paint and brushes. Our job over the past few months has been to sand down and paint the railings outside the church - no easy feat with fading light and dropping temperatures! But we have valiantly painted on and the end is in sight. Just one more push!

While most of the team cracked on with the painting job, Michelle and Remy got to work peeling off the felt stickers on the bottom of the chairs in the hall, and stuck on new pads. The things we do in the name of GG! It was a labour of love, but half an hour later the hundred or so chairs were all happily refelted.

So after congregating in the warm for our one minute weekly plank, and then forcing ourselves outside again, we ran the 3 k back at a fair clip, stopping at the last bit for a quick competitive fitness session. With a last impressive sprint from Natasha and Tara, it was a photo finish after a series of star jumps, jumping lunges, squats and high knees. Way to go team.

Don't forget that next week it's our final run of the year which will be followed by our Christmas social. Sign up here for some festive fitness and Christmas do-gooding!
