We CARD get enough of this Christmas spirit
It's been an extremely difficult Xmas for everyone this. No more so than for older people in Care Homes who have been unable to see their families for the last 9 months. It really is heartbreaking.
That's why we wanted to do something for some of the care homes/housing with care we've visited in the past, as we couldn't visit them in person this year to play games or sing carols. Instead, we sent the residents at Springdale a Xmas Card, some of which were made by our members.
It was great to see so many GoodGymers get involved with this task, some of who were from other GoodGym areas across the UK. Emma made a card for Vera, who is 107 year's old!
These tasks have brought a smile to everyone's face, Merry Christmas to all of you.

Send a Xmas Card to a resident @ Springdale Care Home

The residents at Springdale have become very isolated during this pandemic, lets make them smile by sending them a Xmas Card.
There are 23 residents that would like a Xmas Card sent to them so we need 23 people to complete this Community Mission.
You can either email an electronic card to me at steven@goodgym.org or I can meet you outside The Forum between 3.30-4pm on Friday 18th December to collect it. Alternatively you could deliver/post directly to Springdale, please let me know if you do this.
Once you've signed up, I will email you the name of the person you will be making a Xmas Card for, and then provide the address details on the same email.

Flocking to help Keeping Abreast
Elizabeth, Angela, Johnathan & Sarah flocked to Jarrolds dept store to help a local charity Keeping Abreast shaking our buckets to customers coming into the store to raise awareness and money for this brilliant charity who help those who are going through breast cancer, specifically with breast reconstruction ( see their website www.keepingabreast.com ). Each beauty counter had a baby flamingo, if you paid £1 & name 1 of the people on the photo you received a prize product. All of us first had to sign in with Jarrolds Service Desk, COVID-19 check in for Test & Trace, the Charity gave us lovely t shirts to wear and given buckets. End of our shifts remembering to sign out. A good job done

Flamingo Flocking at Jarrold's in Norwich

We simply need people to wear pink Keeping Abreast T-shirts and hold collection boxes for the charity for a couple of hours at a time between 10am and 4.30pm in Jarrold's on Saturday 24th October. There will be a flock of pink plastic flamingos at the store during this time, in order to raise the charity's profile (and as this month is known as 'Pink OctoBRA'). The store is Covid-secure and the volunteers will need to wear face coverings or visors.
Jarrold's has kindly offered us a collection time of 10am to 4.30pm and so we'll need volunteers throughout the day. There will be someone at Jarrold's organising the volunteers and making sure that they're looked after.
Please email Carolyn to confirm what time you are able to attend on info@keepingabreast.org.uk and infokeepingabreast@gmail.com.

Ivo... Ivo... It's off to GoodGym I Go
We had the honour of GoodGym CEO Ivo joining us on our Community Mission at Grapes Hill Community Garden.
There was another CM taking place tonight and it was nice to see 2 other GoodGymers pass us on their way to that one.
My job was to trim the bush around the path area to make it more accessible.
Sarah, Katy, Bill and Jonathan were weeding brick paving using old kitchen knives. Robert and Dave were digging and hoeing while Ivo was deadheading and weeding.
It was great to return to the venue of our 1st ever GoodGym Norwich task, just over 3 years ago.
To finish up the evening, I took Ivo on a little running tour of Norwich along the river by the Cathedral, where we bumped into another GoodGym Trainer who has just moved to Norwich and was on his first run in the city.

Help tidy up the garden @ Grapes Hill Community Garden

The garden has grown a lot of weeds in the paving cracks and isn't looking its best since lockdown! The surrounding area has accumulated a fair bit of litter and is overgrown. We need people power to keep the garden looking smart and tidy in time for our Art in the Garden event!
