Run, GoodGymers, Run!

Exeter Report written by Klara Kjellgren

For two weeks 9 of our GoodGymmers have been out clocking up some impressive miles to give Westbank, a local charity that has helped hundreds of families during the Covid-outbreak, and Global’s Make Some Noise Emergency Appeal, A HUGE SHOUT OUT!

Wow you guys have really smashed some pretty outstanding runs! The photos you have sent in are absolutely stunning too! Here are some examples of all the running that took place:

  • Matt from Bristol has been is running 95 miles in 9.5 days, a virtual West Highland Way Race. Amazing effort!

  • Chloe did a great run in her local park, it looked lovely!

  • Jo ran a 5 k PB in a lovely looking forest under a bright blue sky- beautiful and fantastic result!

  • Gemma ran her furthest run ever, an impressive 15 miles!

  • Lucy R ran her favorite hilly route in some very smart looking bamboo leggings!

  • We also had some stunning shots from Devon’s dramatic coastline, we sure do live in Devon-Heaven!

A big cheer to everyone who took part and to Westbank and Global’s Make Some Noise, for their very important work during these hard times!

Pass The Baton On Your Lefthand Side!

Exeter Report written by Klara Kjellgren

This week 16 runners had the best of times passing a virtual baton around our group!

The relay started on Monday morning and over the week we saw a fantastic selection of different runs! Here are a few of them:

  • Lucy went for a birthday run! Yay! Hope you had a great day!

  • Sam did some wild Dartmoor running! Amazing views!

  • Craig and Florence ran on the hottest day of the year so far! Brilliant effort in the heat!

  • Lizzi did an 8 k charity run, raising money and awareness for Help Refugees #chooselove

  • Helen ran 30 laps up and down the same street as she is shielding whilst waiting for her dad’s surgery in a couple of weeks

We also had the best selection of batons ever!

  • Real baguettes filled with ham and cheese

  • 3-4 dogs (I lost count!)

  • Spades

  • Gin&tonics

  • Beers

  • Twigs and branches

Absolutely brilliant! I totally loved seeing all you got up to! After two and half months of not running as a group our community as runners who do good and have fun is still going so strong! So much GG love!

Next week we are back doing joint community missions and I can’t tell you how excited I am about it! We will be maximum 6 people at each mission and work with plenty of space between us at all times. Take a look at the listings here.

For fitness next week go out and smash your favorite run, post a picture of it on twitter, Instagram or Facebook with the text “This week we run for the Westbank and for Global's Make Some Noise”. All to raise awareness of two brilliant charities! Sign up here to join!

Joy Revision!

Exeter Report written by Klara Kjellgren

With all the discussion about schools going back I thought it was a good time for a revision challenge! 8 runners revised three of our previous challenges in one single weekend and totally smashed it!

First up we had the Sally Squats (we played Flower by Moby and stayed in a static squat until we herd "bring sally up") then Roxanne burpees (jogging on the spot and doing a burpee every time we herd "Roxanne") and finally Eminem's Abs session (mixing of static planks and crunches). Wow a head to toe work-out with some cardio added!

It was fantastic to see Gemma back for her second fitness session with us! Samuel nailed his squats as always. His top tip for a good squat is:

Ass to the grass!

Also brilliant work from Helen who during lockdown has worked her way up to completing the full Sally Squat session! Amazing effort!

I have to say I had my work cut out for me when one of my twins decided to sit on my back as I was planking during the core challenge. It looked like Tom had a much more relaxed approach to his revision work...!

Lovely to have you all on board this weekend and great work!

Next up

This week we’re having a relay! Its starting today with me going for a run and passing a virtual baton to someone else in the group by posting a little film in our WhatsApp group. Lets see how far we can get in a week! Sign up here to join or text me on 07795064906 to be added to our WhatsApp group.

GoodGin time!

Exeter Report written by Klara Kjellgren

13 runners celebrated Mental Health Awareness Week by carrying out random acts of kindness during their solo runs last week! Fantastic work everyone who took part!

It was a stunning week with glorious sunshine, perfect conditions for running and, considering what times we are in, an even more perfect time to carry out some random acts of kindness!

Lizzie went out on long run and posted some lovely notes for other runners to find. Imagine how amazing it would be to find a message telling you to:

Listen to the birds singing just for you!

Lisa sent some take-away cocktails to a friend she is missing! What a great idea! I got so inspired by this that I have decided to make a lucky dip with everyone who took part in this week's challenge and deliver some GoodGin to the winner as my random act of kindness! Lets see who it will be!

Nic offered support to a teenager in need whilst Jo sent her god-daughter pictures of a fairy garden she found during her run, promising to take her there when things are back to normal!

Anna put out water for thirsty dogs outside her house and Clàudia helped out a friend by taking their dog for a walk together with Pete. Lovely work!

I absolutely loved seeing all the random acts of kindness that you guys carried out! At times like this kindness is more important that ever and you guys really spread some lovely vibes and kindness in the community!
