Voluntree action
A treemendous effort from all runners today. We had some big ol’ holes to dig for 10 adolescent trees to be transplanted into the estate. Not an easy task since the soil was rubblesome and many of the stakes were too high. The weather was sunny and snowing and hot and cold all at once. But with the help of much elbow grease, pickaxe action, hoedown throwdowns, a master gardener, digging for victory, croissants and teamwork, we did eventually make the tree-dream work. Looking forwards to seeing these new upstanding fellas flower and flourish over the forthcoming seasons!

Tree planting at Kentish Town Fire Station

You may have seen the the new garden pop up in front of Kentish Town Fire station recently.
Kentish Town Transition Town and Think and Do Camden relocated there at the end of last year and have slowly been greening the space. Now called the Greening your foot print garden.
We'll be joining forces with local residents to plant around 70 new trees as a new hedgerow in up-cycled raised containers. Camden Green recycling bins to be exact, which have been donated by Veolia. The planting will involve the shovelling and filling of them and topping with a layer of mulch.
We have as well some larger fruit trees like apricots to plant and flowering bulbs. All will make a huge effort to transform this concrete space.
There's also a new plaque to be put up as well!

Peter is a now a fully fledged GoodGym runner. They've just run to do good for the first time. They are out there making amazing things happen and getting fit at the same time.

Peter completed a community mission. Instead of watching TV or lying in bed, Peter was out there making their community a better place to be. For making that choice they have earned the community cape.

This will involve regular activities through the calendar year. Looking to engage the local community with citizen science and other environmental activities.
The agreed location is Henlys corner junction of A406 and the Finchley Road
Here is a precise what3words address, made of 3 random words. Every 3 metre square in the world has its own unique what3words address.

A Tiny Forest is a dense and rapidly growing native woodland in a small area. It will provide a protected habitat for wildlife, capture carbon, filter the air of harmful particulates and reduce flooding and soil loss.
Besides these important local effects, it is symbolic of our need to protect our wider environment and it is hoped it will provide an education and emotional engagement of our community. It’s also something that we will have to physically nurture as a group. Its a great fit for Goodgym!
These initiatives are gaining popularity across the UK, with organisations like EarthWatch and The Conservation Volunteers getting involved.
If you have ideas about how to promote this planting to the community please also get in touch. We want schools, community groups, artisans, news media and others to get involved.
Thanks to Daniel Mermelstein for introducing the idea to Goodgym Barnet.

Clearing the way!
It might have turned cold but we kept warm up and down stairs delivery flyers letting local residents know about upcoming tree planting in their area.
We also had time to clear and prepare the ground around existing trees in the hedgerow to find gaps for where the new trees will go!
