What started as a wet soggy weather day ended in beautiful blue sky sunshine. Nick and Jen joined a few other volunteers from CRT to tackle the pennywort that was starting to build up along the River Soar at Barrow upon soar. After a safety briefing it was all systems go: bounancy aids on and we were then climbing into canoes eager to paddle off. Before we could that there was the Barrow Deep Lock to navigate. Our timing wasn't best as we had to wait for four boats to pass through the Lock, going on both directions it took more than 40 minutes before we could ho through ourselves. Once through the Lock, it was easy to spot the patches of pennywort. Using rakes and hands we pulled what seemed like tons of the stuff into the canoe then disposed of it on the bank. After a few hours the section of river was cleared and we paddled back to base pleased with our efforts.

Seven Goodgymmers went to help at the annual Rothley 10km fundraiser for the LOROS Hospice. This is a popular fun event that is well supported by the village residents. With a kids fun run before the 10k, many of the village familes return home and have a picnic/barbecue on their drive while cheering the passing runners. we had two new people attending their first task - welcome Rob and Vera. Vera and Nick marshalled the side roads around the first hilly loop, Lots of local support there. Ian and Rob were further down the course. Jimmy, on his bike, was right around the back straight. And Mel and Dave were at the much needed water station on a warm and humid night. Volunteers all got a goodybag, tshirt and voucher for fish and chips from the village chippy, making this a great night out

A huge weldone to everyone volunteering at Junior parkrun for giving your time and energy to volunteer.
Events like these couldn’t happen without people stepping forward to support the community and create such a positive, welcoming environment for everyone, parents and running juniors.
