Hayfever relief in the fine city

Norwich Report written by Woody

This task was helping Ms J with their overgrown garden that they couldn't tend to because of hayfever symptoms. I only had sheers so getting the grass cut was a challenge, but I manager to tidy up the borders and take the height down of all the weeds, I discovered a big frog doing the work, who I hope didn't feel too disturbed by the work, it was hopping around happily as I left.

Third time clearing, third time lucky

Norwich Report written by Woody

This was the 3rd trip to Mr D, but it seems to have done the trick, the garden was overgrown with brambles and needed to be taken completely back as it has to be level for Mr D to talk on it. We made good progress with Mr D over the moon and neighbours admiring the garden too, there's more for Mr. D to do but he's happy with where we got too. The biggest spider I've ever seen in the UK was spotted during the work too!

Bin there, done that, recycled it.

Norwich Report written by Ian Gostling

On a bright Saturday morning, 6 GoodGymer's joined the Friends of Waterloo Park for a bit of shoveling.

Waterloo Park is an awarded Green Flag Park. This means it must maintain high quality standards, including excellent environmental management, biodiversity, and community involvement.

Every week, the work in the park collects large amounts of green waste that is left to dry out and compost. And today we were asked to shovel the branches and soil from the compost boxes into piles, which will be collected by the council for further recycling.

Together the 'Friends' and GoodGymer's completed the task within an hour, while observing snails, moths and other bugs.

We finished with a well earned brew and biscuits!

Weeding and cutting down grass for Ms J (wk1)

A huge impact on her mental health as she cannot complete any gardening due to hayfever and it will make her front entrance look much tidier for her.

A Hole lotta herbs

Norwich Report written by Ian Gostling

Tonight 8 GoodGymer's ran 4km to Edmund Bacon Court.

The local residents had been donated a number of herbs including Lavender, Rosemary and other plants, Azalea, Hydrangeas, Geraniums and Salvias.

So we began our first task, weeding the borders and collecting any unwanted bulbs to be dried out. Then came the digging, checking the holes were the correct depth and pouring in water before bedding in the new plants.

The residents were delighted with our efforts and even supplied tea & biscuits!

We look forward to seeing this grow when return later in the year.

Bramblebators 3 : Rise of the machines

Norwich Report written by Woody

A storming morning of sunshine today as we returned to Valpy Avenue allotments for another round of bramble clearing.

Releasing another plot for use from the grasp of Skynet’s brambles. A chainsaw was even used by one of the extra volunteers supporting GoodGym to get the hardest bits of bramble cleared.

Fun was had and ground was cleared. Afterwards everyone celebrated with a picnic featuring some refreshing watermelon slices! Task to be continued...
