Petts Wood 10k

Sun 10 Oct 10:30 am
Willett Recreation Ground, Petts Wood, Kent, BR5 1PE
Awesome fun in the woods!

Join GoodGym Lewisham, as we venture a little further south again, to enjoy our favourite annual 10k race. Expect a trail run, through woods and residential streets, incredible support from volunteers (members of the Petts Wood Runners), a banana handed to you by a gorilla and a post-race samosa.

To enter the race itself, click here. We have done this race a few years running and have never failed to have a great GoodGym family experience. The race start is a short walk from Petts Wood station, but do check for weekend rail changes ahead of time (and travel together if you want company!).

Embrace those hills!

Wormwood Scrubs Park, London, W12 0DF
Run with GoodGym for some cross country racing!

It’s XC time and we are officially taking part in the 🏁 Met League Cross Country, it's a monthly series of 5 races as follow:

What is it ❓

Met League Cross Country is a set of five 7-8km races organised by London race clubs. They are held in parks around London with the routes including a mixture of grass, gravel and a little mud!

⏲️ Races are held in age groups for women and men. We take part in the Senior division.

  • Women's race will start around 13:30
  • Men's race will start around 14:30

Please arrived at least 20 minutes early to warm up and get your race number, also Men should arrive at the start of women race to cheers on πŸ”₯!

This is how the scoring works πŸ…

  • All races are scored on a reverse scoring basis, i.e. if there are 50 athletes in a race, the first finisher shall score 50 points, the 50th finisher 1 point.
  • So your time doesn't matter, it's your finishing position. But it is the taking part that we really care about!

To Take Part πŸƒπŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

The cost is Β£5 and gives you access to all 5 races in the season! You can take part in as many on the races as you like. Payment can be done on the day or via bank transfer.

In order to participate you need to be a first claim member of the GoodGym Race Team. If you need help with this contact raceteam@goodgym.org

You can also check your UKA Number on this page.

Second claim members can also compete for GoodGym as long as their first claim club is not competing in Met League

You are welcome to join this WhatsApp group to chat to others taking part.

Post Race 🍻

After each race, we will go to a pub to celebrate and eat some lunch. Everyone is welcome to join.

Outside of London? πŸ—ΊοΈ

If you are from a GoodGym outside of London let us know we will help you to find somewhere to stay if you want.

Supporters πŸ”Š

Feel free to join If you just want to cheer, take photo or join us in the pub after :D

I can Seniors clearly now the grime has gone

Report written by Kim Parker

This was our first visit to Seniors since before the pandemic and we were all very excited to be returning! The task may have changed from gardening to window cleaning but that didn’t deter us - great work everyone!!

We had a couple of hills to tackle before we even made it to Seniors. It was a good reminder for everyone to focus on using their arms when running up hills, not letting them swing around in all directions. It’s also a good distraction for how hard your legs are working! The views on the way back more than made up for the hills..

Once we arrived at Seniors and regrouped with those meeting us at the task, it was time to get stuck in. We even managed to make a start on the conservatory windows but with it being pitch black by now, we weren’t entirely sure whether we’d cleaned them well or not. The highlight of the evening was Cathy giving us a brief history of the building and what it used to be used for. Thanks for the sandwiches as well!

Next week we are off to Springbank Road Community Garden - don’t forget head torches as it’s getting dark on group runs now! It would be wonderful to see you there.

Help out in the garden at Seniors

Mon 20 Sep 18:45 pm
Glass Mill Leisure Centre, 41 Loampit Vale, Lewisham, SE13 7FT
Improve the space for the local community

Welcome to GoodGym Lewisham! We're a friendly and social group who combine exercise with helping out in the local community. We meet every Monday evening to get active and do a physical task to help the charities and community organisations in our area.

The Task

We are heading back to Seniors for the first time as a group since January 2020!! This is a special task and this week we will be helping in the garden, there will be a range of tasks to get involved in and also a couple of indoor tasks depending on numbers.

The Run

GoodGym is for everyone! We always have a back-marker so no-one is left behind - we're about achieving something together, so you'll always be welcome no matter what your pace is. The run this week takes us up and over Blythe Hill Fields, the view is worth the hill, in total it will be around 6km.

The Essentials

We meet at Glass Mill Leisure Centre at 6.45pm, so a short walk from Lewisham Station. We have access to lockers and changing facilities, so you could easily drop in on your way home (bring a pound coin or padlock if you want to use the lockers). Look out for the red t-shirts, we're very friendly!

Race chums pick ace plums

Mon 23 Aug

Report written by Kim Parker

Congratulations to everyone who ran The Big Half on Sunday - you all did amazing! It was amazing to see so many GoodGym runners on the route running and supporting.

It was also great to have GoodGymmers from other areas joining us this evening!

As there were a few tired legs this evening (mine included) we did a gentle warm up and made our way up a big hill to Springbank Community Garden where a lot of people were meeting us, preferring to get tired legs to the task using another means of transport. We started by working out who knew the difference between a plant and a weed, a common GoodGym question, and then we divided tasks based on those answers.

Anne-Marie had a long list of tasks for us, including:

  • Plum picking (there may have been limited plums remaining but we made the most of it)
  • Topiary
  • Weeding
  • Digging up trees
  • Painting the fence
  • Planting plants
  • Cutting back the plum tree
  • Putting up a sign
  • Moving a planter

We smashed it (and no one got hurt)!! We left feeling like a job well done and knowing Anne-Marie was very happy the long list of jobs had been completed. We were also treated to some homegrown vegetables including a variety of courgettes, cucumbers and plums - thank you

Next week we are off to St Swithun's Church in Hither Green - sign up here

Take your pick of jobs at this beautiful garden

This week we will be helping out at Springbank Community Garden in Hither Green. One of the main tasks will be picking fruit off the plum trees and there will be other tasks to get stuck into in the garden.

The Run

GoodGym is for everyone! We always have a back-marker so no-one is left behind - we're about achieving something together, so you'll always be welcome no matter what your pace is. This weeks run is approx. 5km in total - don't forget we have the task in the middle to recover.
