It was urbangreen's 100th task and we all showed up to Hodgkin park pretty excited and prepared with some surprises. Mike was there on a purely volunteer role but he shared lovely stories about the park as usual. Today's job was to take down the Ivy that had covered a massive section of the wall. It looked pretty satisfying at first. Taking down entire sections of Ivy. But we had to drag it uphill, so it was out of the way and we were all sweaty and out of breath in no time! Our tea/coffee break was extra special as Mike had brought in a chocolate cake and Lucy's mum baked us some lovely cupcakes to celebrate the occasion. We managed to clear off quite a lot of Ivy. All in all a very exciting task and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

First of all, it was lovely meeting @Albane, who was on her first ever goodgym community mission, and @Florence, who was on her second task. Hope the weather didn't put you off. Today's task was extremely satisfying as we were given loppers and shears to get some overgrown hedges in control. If you are currently upset at someone, maybe a co-worker, a partner, a delivery guy, who delivered your parcel to someone else and only sent you pictures of someone's feet with slippers on, so you now have to go around the neighborhood like Prince Charming looking for Cinderella!...you get the gist...just imagine their face in the hedges and keep lopping and shearing!! With a much needed coffee break in between, 2 hours went by pretty quickly and the hedges looked pretty good. Mike even had to make a skip run in between! I only have before pictures of one section because I honestly didn't think we would get so much done!!

It was a nice sunny Saturday morning as Beth, Aimee and I met up at the Staithes cafe in Gateshead. Our mission, should we choose to accept it, was to spread the word about a window art exhibition(which I thought was a super cool idea!). Navigating the estate wasn't an easy task though and we frequently stopped to consult the map, to check which streets we've covered.
I also got distracted by this gorgeous cat who sprinted at full speed towards me then promptly laid down for belly rubs!
We finally managed to successfully deliver the massive box of leaflets and had a nice catch up over tea and cake at the really nice, but very busy, Staithes Cafe.

Continuing our litter pick relay, I had initially planned to do a bit of litter picking at Hodgkin Park after my morning task. Unfortunately there wasn't much litter to pick!! Mike had already cleaned up the upper park and one of the volunteers cleared up 2 bags of litter. So I headed home and decided to clean up the streets infront of my apartment and the leazes park. Within a few minutes I'd collected loads of discarded drink cans, a solitary vape and loads of cigarette butts. I can safely conclude that most of my neighbourhood, which is mostly uni students, prefer cider to any other drink!🤣 I can't believe we've managed to keep the litter pick relay going for so long, but it has been an awesome team effort that I am so happy to be a part of.

It was a very windy Sunday morning and we headed to Hodgkin Park to help Urban Green with the park maintenance.
Today we were at the lower park area to tackle a lot of overgrowth. Mike warned me that the shrubs were Pyracantra, which literally translates to Fire thorns, and they are really prickly. I actually googled pyracantha, so I'd remember the name, and it turns out it is a very pretty evergreen plant with loads of white flowers and red berries. It just really really doesn't want to be eaten!!
We managed to clear off about half of the overgrowth and I got loads of scratches off the really fiery Fire thorns. We also cleared off some of the grass around the area. We will be there at Hodgkin in 3 weeks time to clear off the rest.
