Good Chip Wood Chip

Sheffield Report written by Sam Needham

A total of 26 GoodGymmers helped Regather out on a return visit to Lynwood Gardens. We welcomed new recruit Chris Wojciechowski before running to our destination via The Moor.

We met Wonderful Gareth on arrival, and split into 3 teams...

  • Team Shovel
  • Team Shift
  • Team Spread

Whereupon we set about covering a large area of path in the gardens with wood chip, even moving on to other sections so as to get through the whole pile just in time. A brilliant effort from everyone, and thankfully dry - unlike our last visit!

We then said our goodbyes (until next time), heading back to base. On the way we did:

  • Follow my leader sprints
  • Wall sit challenge
  • Fartlek hill intervals

We covered just over 5k on our run to and from the gardens.

...Before stretching and heading to the bar for a bit of well earned socialising.

Next week we make a welcome return to help out Heeley People's Park.

Paint it, lift it, shift it, stack it, move it, climb it, plank it!

Sheffield Report written by Tom Mutton

We were joined this week by SHEFFIELD STAR's very own STAR reporter DANGEROUS DAN who really worked for his story getting the full GG experience!

We also had some photographs taken by MARVELOUS MARIE prior to setting off, so keep an eye out in this weeks paper for the story!

This week we were back off to meet SENSATIONAL STEVE of CADS to help with the restoration of the Abbeydale Picture House. On arrival we split into three teams and were briefed and set up with Steve.

TEAM LIFT & SHIFT 1 - The big guns came out to lift and shift a load of concrete pillars in readiness for them to be restored on what will be a new exterior balcony on the outside facade of the building.

TEAM PAINT IT - We had 2 separate rooms to go at this week, the team got straight to it getting overalls on and rollers and brushes in hand to add a fresh coat to some of the walls.

TEAM LIFT & SHIFT 2 - Shifting odds and sods including some big old scaffolding poles from the balcony.

Once we downed tools we headed to the ground floor to get ready for the fitness session of the evening. This week we made use of the many stairs and multiple levels by doing a stair based circuit session in teams of 3. Number 1 started off doing flutter kicks on ground floor level, number 2 legged it up the stairs to number 3 who was planking and waiting for a tag to go down the stairs and tag number 1 and replace them. We did three circuits with everyone putting in a great effort with some great self policing and fantastic supportive team mentality, keeping the whole group accountable to each other maintaining the planks and flutter kicks.

After some thanks from Steve we said our goodbyes and headed home to the Showroom lead by SPRINTING SAM who provided some great opportunities for some sprint loop backs with everyone putting in a good chase.

SENSATIONAL SAM will be leading on the next 2 runs so watch out for those sprints!

Clothes to the left of me, jumpers to the right, here I am! Stuck in the muddle with you!

Sheffield Report written by Tom Mutton

IT'S ANOTHER @GGSHEFF RECORD!

WOW! 34 FANTASTIC runners took part in a great task helping CATHEDRAL ARCHER PROJECT sort through donated clothes which will go to those in need in need in Sheffield during the difficult and cold Sheffield winter.

WELCOME, WELCOME, WELCOME

Please give a big round of applause, follow, cheer, woop and hola for new runners to the group;

Welcome to the group, great to meet you all, hope you really enjoyed it and hope to see you all on another run soon!

GG ON 3!

After welcoming our new runners we went for the B-Ball hands in with a good @GGSHEFF shout out on 3 and headed off across the main streets of Sheffield to meet EXCELLENT EMILY from CATHEDRAL ARCHER PROJECT for our task brief.

Our task this week was all about sorting clothes which were kindly donated and will be gifted to those in need in the city on the cold Sheffield streets this winter, a great cause that we are all glad we can help with.

We split into small teams and set to sorting the clothes into piles of women's, men's, shoes, accessories etc. It was a HUGE pile we were faced with with some commenting > I don't know whether to in-vest in these pants or sock the whole thing off... But with everyone clubbing together and mucking in we were a SHOE IN TO WIN.

As we were sorting through, everyone was keeping an eye out for their fave item which for our final group photo. There were some very interesting items and choices including a sexy little number modeled by NEGLIGEE NEEDHAM and some items that were just plain puzzling...

'Is this for a dog?' (Super Steve)

Once all the piles were in some form of order we got together with our choice pieces and had a group photo resembling somewhat of a MAD HATTERS GG PARTY before squating to the tunes of Police's 'ROXANNE' to get our legs warmed up for the outside and the exercise to come. After thanks from Emily we headed up the cobbled Cathedral path to the front of the Cathedral where we got stuck into some CIRCULAR CIRCUITS...

CIRCIULAR CATHEDRAL CIRCUITS

This weeks exercise was done in the beautiful backdrop of Sheffield Cathedral where we did a circuit with circular laps in between each exercise of 10 reps. We smashed out;

  • Lunges
  • Squats
  • Star Jumps
  • Split Lunges
  • Squat 180's
  • Mountain Climber's
  • Curtsy Lunge's
  • Sumo Squats
  • Goblet Squats

On route back we ran passed some beautiful spots of Sheffield including the Crucible & Winter Gardens and took advantage of the Hallam uni stairs to do a quick stair sprint!

On arrival back at base we stretched off and heard updates inc:

  • January Challenge Update
  • Barnsley Tues group run
  • Sheffield starter session
  • Thanks to Steve & Chris - TASK FORCE supreme members for organising Park run volunteering and litter picking over the weekend

All details of the above on the GG website. Check em out and get signed up!

Also BIG UP to SENSATIONAL SUZE for smashing her 50th good deed! Congrats Suze, be prepared for wonder and awe when you next rock up in your black 50 good deed Tee!

Thanks to everyone for coming along. Hopefully see you all on our next run soon!

Tom :)
