Back by popular demand- 1 mile and 5km time trial in Victoria Park!

Missing our annual trip to Parliament Hill for GG Olympics, or your regular track session with your running club? Or just interested to try out track running for the first time in a social setting?

Come and join us for a Goodgym track meet at Victoria Park Track.

(We will meet at the Pavilion Cafe at the entrance to the park and then walk over to the track).

Sign up to run either:

1 mile time trial- 4 laps

3000m (3km)- 7.5 laps

5000m (5km)- 12.5 laps

Please comment on this event page to state which distance you would prefer.

We are planning on hosting 3 or more timed events, limiting the numbers of participants on the track at one time. Those who are not running in the race will be asked to be lap counters, and will swap roles as they run.

Although the event is timed, it definitely isn't going to be competitive. Open to all, chase your own goals!

Come and cheer each other on. Afterwards, we will meet up for a coffee and possibly some brunch at the Park Cafe across from the track.

Meet you at Pavilion Cafe near the entrance to Victoria Park (Globe Road), and we will walk to the track

Another Flick Off The Wall

Fri 11 Jun
Report written by John Shirley

Once again we gathered at John Scurr Primary School on a Friday night, and as ever, everything was organised perfectly and caretaker Ray was there to greet us.

Our main task was to scrape white paint off a wall - I'm pleased to say it wasn't the same wall we painted white just a few weeks ago.

There was much conversation; mainly we discussed Germany's health system, as you do. It was certainly more interesting than watching paint dry. In fact, scraping paint off a wall is also more interesting than watching paint dry. The skill is to find the low-hanging fruit of paint-scraping-off: i.e. the loose, flaky bits.

At the end, the debris beneath our feet provided evidence of our work. Everyone removed their protective goggles, except me, I wear mine all the time.

Meanwhile, Martin set to work removing blue paint from a wall and pipe. When asked how it looked afterwards, he said "much the same as before". Many an untrue word is spoken in jest...

Plogging with Camino Ultra London

Tue 8 Jun 11:30 am
The Breakfast Club (outside), Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, 29 East Bay Lane Canalside, Here East, , London, E15 2GW

Please note that this community mission has been cancelled.

Litter picking along the Lea Valley Navigation

DaznBone and Hackney Council have organised a litter picking and urban renovation session along the Lea Valley Navigation, near the finishing line of the upcoming Camino Ultra London 50km.

The plan is the meet up outside The Breakfast Club at Here East, Hackney Wick, and we will walk along the canal side, clearing as we go. There is a key location near a bridge underpass that will require attention!

After 90 minutes or so, we will finish up with a group lunch in the local area before calling it a day.

Key contact details will be emailed in advance.

New kids on the (hem)lock

Sun 6 Jun
Report written by Becs Clarke

Part two of the epic Hemlock removal saga!

10 GoodGym runners, Tunde, and several volunteers from the lovely Friends of Meath Gardens met to tackle the Disney villainous poison parsley (Hemlock) that covered a large proportion of the grassy area near to the canal at Meath.

After tackling one side of the path in a terrible downpour a couple of weeks prior (please see report here if you're interested to know more about this murderous plant), we met to attack the much larger area of Hemlock on the other side of the path, except this time we were armed with spades, forks, secateurs, and sunshine.

We got straight stuck in with hacking away, trying to cut as close to the roots as possible before the plant goes to seed, so that it is unable to grow again. A hefty workout, grunts were heard all round, mixed with cheers as clearings started to appear where we were working and we could eventually see each other from behind the tall plants.

With a large group, some real hard work and good company, we managed to successfully rid ALL of the Hemlock, a huge achievement for such a short space of time. In doing this, It means that the council will be able to plant a wildflower meadow in time, meaning Meath will soon be embroidered with colour 🌺

Thanks everyone for all your hard work on a sunny Sunday morning, you literally saved (dogs/ cats, and maybe some silly humans) lives 💪

Meath Gardens Hemlock Removal Part II

Sun 6 Jun 10:00 am
Meath Gardens, 1 Smart St, London , E2 0SN
Hemlock is suffocating trees in Meath Gardens! Come and join Becs' second big removal effort!

Nee-naw, nee-naw: back to the emergency gardening task!

Hemlock has started to suffocate the trees in Meath Gardens, and we've been asked to lend a hand again this Sunday. Can you help?

What we'll be doing

  • Led by our hemlock pro, Becs, we're heading back to work with Friends of Meath Gardens on this sociable Sunday morning task, to help continue removing the invasive hemlock, before it flowers and spreads its seeds any more.

What you need to know

  • We will be spread out for this outdoor task.

  • We will be joined by volunteers from the kFriends of Meath Gardens group, for a really sociable event!

  • Bring your own gloves, but Task Owner Tunde will also be bringing gloves and tools.

  • Please arrive punctually for this task (even the smallest hemlock plants need removing, so recognition skills will be crucial and this will be covered in the briefing at the start!).

Need to cancel?

  • We very much hope you'll be able to make it, but if anything changes after you've signed up, please un-sign as soon as possible so we know how many GoodGym members to expect. Thank you!

What you will be doing

  • Tasks this evening will include painting the basketball court and other walls, sanding down some edges of the building and clearing jobs.

Please note: while it's a good idea to wear your old clothes,Ray covers everything when it comes to goggles, gloves and disposable overalls!

  • If you fancy writing a run report, you can pop your pics, pun and activity details online after the task!

Where we will be meeting

  • We will meet at 6pm at the Cleveland Way entrance to the school (there is a Tesco Express a few doors down on the corner of Mile End Road).

Need to cancel?
