Trees for Streets Part II: Bow West vs Bow East

Mon 13 Sep 18:45 pm
St Stephen’s Green, (between St Stephen’s Rd & Old Ford Road), Bow, E3 5JU
And it's BACK: the second part of this task sees us taking to the streets of two wards to see who can cover the most ground...

We're one of the three areas invited to get on board with the new Trees for Street campaign in Tower Hamlets! And there's work to be done...

In this second event of our partnership, we return to the streets with the Trees for Streets crew, armed with maps and highlighters in a quest to discover which of today's teams - Bow East and Bow West - will be tonight's winners…

What we will be doing

  • We meet in a new location, St Stephen’s Green - map here - just for this evening (due to where we need to leaflet) at 6:45pm for a pre-task workout.

  • At 7pm, the Trees for Streets team will brief you on your mission...

  • We return to base for a post-task pint option at The Lord Morpeth.

  • Our teams will be divided up into fitness ability: those runners among us will be heading to further-away streets; the walkers to those closer by. But the end goal is the same - to see who can flyer the most houses in an hour...

Mon 16 Aug 19:00 pm
43 Harley Grove, Bow, London, E3 2AT
Help the community garden grow !

Kieran at GetOut has asked if we can help in the community garden. It's nice, but we could make it nicer, and they grow veg and herbs and stuff, but we could help them grow more.

Making a sheep mountain at Stepney City Farm

Mon 9 Aug 18:30 pm
Stepney City Farm, Stepney Green, London, E1 3DG

Please note that this community mission has been cancelled.

Come and join this Friday evening at the farm!

It's Friday night, so ditch the office wear and grab your trainers and get yourself down to one of GoodGym Tower Hamlets firm favourite tasks where we will be swapping the bar for paddocks and colleagues for animals (but also maybe heading to those bars afterwards ;p) .

So, what will we be doing?

  • Weeding and pruning around the farm
  • Moving a pile of earth to make a sheep mountain (No, I'm not sure either, but sounds exciting)
  • A spot of litter picking before the night is over to finish the job

Anything else?

  • The task will be led by TaskForce member Becs, and Clare of Stepney City Farm. If you're new to GoodGym then don't be shy, we welcome everyone and love to see a new face :)
  • If you have any questions please ask in the comments below

Jessica Farmery has done a 6 month mission streak. Thu 15 Jul 2021

Jessica just completed a six month streak of doing missions. That’s so many bags of garden rubbish cleared and jobs done to help someone out and put a smile on their face. Give Jessica a cheer to encourage them to keep up the good work.

Cutting it vine

Thu 15 Jul
Report written by Emma Rapley

All six runners turned up, popped their protective gloves on and got to work pruning and trimming many an overgrown bush in Patriot Square. The task seemed pretty daunting especially as “wild”, “jungle” and “overgrown” had been banded about, but with Clair, Simon, Even, Stephen, Emma and Jessica poised and ready with secateurs it was soon whipped into shape and looking much tidier than before.

Margaret seemed impressed by the speed and overall enthusiasm displayed by each and every GoodGymmer.

Having finished the mission, we headed to Stephen’s balcony to join Cleopatra and Sherlock for crisps, hummus, Tangfastics and Prosecco. We all seemed to agree that heading to the Town Hall hotel for breakfast or a Michelin starred meal is a must.

Special shout out to Ivy who joined following her 7k run with Achilles International.

Thanks to everyone who joined and put in such a great effort.

Pruning the green corridor

Thu 15 Jul 18:30 pm
Patriot Square, Bethnal Green, London , E2 9NU
Provide greater access for everyone

You’ll be helping the local community and stalwarts over at Partriot Square by donning your protective gloves and getting busy with a pair of pruners.

Task: Hedge pruning to 150cm or feel free to use Emma as a reference for “shoulder height”.

As mentioned by Margaret, things have grown a bit wild of late and “throughout the pandemic the hedge has climbed to a hight that can feel inhibiting to People using the Lane. If it can be brought to shoulder hight users would feel more comfortable. The area needs a lot of maintenance and with this job done it will free us up to concentrate on many of the other tasks.”

We'll meet outside the town hall hotel and the path/lane we'll be clearing is directly at the end of the road.

Following completion of the task, we’ll head for a knees up on Stephen’s balcony nearby so bring a drink with you.

Don’t Band So Close To Me

Mon 7 Jun
Report written by Laura Williams

A hot, humid Monday was no match for tonight's GoodGym runners who turned up in a whopping group of 12 for this evening's Monday Meath fitness session.

We welcomed first time runners, Tj, Stephanie and Geir before starting with a stretch; proceeding to some mobility and balance work, before tackling tonight's drills and speedwork.

We then whizzed through our mini-band workout but be sure there was nothing mini about this workout. We tackled lower body, abs and core and upper body, before finishing with our favourite greyhound-and-hare speedy lap of the park, and calling it a night with our Peaceful Music playlist, and some stretches under the sky.

We then said our farewells.

Well, some of us did while others headed off with Stephen, (Task Force Pro, who's heading up our new social squad), to the pub. What a great way to end your first GoodGym event - well done everyone.

Another lovely evening, working hard, enjoying one another's company, looking forward to sociable summer get togethers.
