Yoga ta to play!

Barnet Report written by Paul Salman

A few GoodGym members came online to do yoga.

Yoga encourages Three-dimensional Movement.

Much of our lives are spent moving our bodies in only one direction. Whether we’re sitting on a chair, flexing our neck up and down to look at screens or moving between floors by going up and down stairs, we’re drastically limited in our range of motions. Our bodies were designed to move in 3 dimensions, yet modern life forces us to largely move in only one.

Useful ideas here about movement in space , variability, play and discovery in a regular short practice. Waking up new movements and mobility, stamina and strength.

Tree- mendous tiny plantings

Barnet Report written by Paul Salman

It was very moving to see so many people turning up and getting stuck in so enthusiastically into planting Barnets first Tiny Forest. Six hundred trees and six huge bags of mulch went in in under two hours. The session with school kids in the morning was also brilliant and very heart warming.  Here's a few pictures but they don't really do justice to the energy of the event. We will continue to look after our Tiny Forest with a little pics and citizen science in years to come.

Thank you for getting involved with a very worthwhile community mission!

Also give me a shout out to Clay on her first community mission with Goodgym Barnet.

and thank you to Kash for running the morning training session. my arms are still aching!

Yogata pick yourself up!

Barnet Report written by Paul Salman

Thanks for coming hope you enjoyed the session it’s good that you can do longer sessions to help focus but why not think about a short session now you know a little about simple postures and breathing.

Need a pick-me-up? If you feel a bit low it's tempting to go for a pint, order a pizza or treat yourself to some new shoes, but putting 15 minutes aside to practice yoga every day could transform your mood (and your health) in more ways than you could imagine.

Studies have shown that yoga can decrease the secretion of cortisol, the primary stress hormone, which in turn can improve your overall health. Wherever you are and whatever you're doing, it's easy to squeeze in just 15 minutes of yoga practice a day. Here are 16 benefits of yoga and why it will be worth it:

Stretching the limits

Barnet Report written by Paul Salman

A few good gym members joint for an online yoga session.

interesting quote from the author William Irvine.

Yoga has improved my balance and flexibility, reminded me of the importance of play, and made me acutely aware of how little control I have over the contents of my mind. But besides conferring these and other benefits to me, yoga has been a wonderful source of voluntary discomfort. While doing yoga, I twist myself into poses that are uncomfortable or that in some cases border on being painful. I will, for example, bend my legs until they are at the very edge of a cramp and then back off a bit. My yoga teacher, never talks about pain instead, she talks about poses giving rise to too much sensation. She has taught me how to breathe into the place that hurts. The technique undeniably works.
