26 awesome runners ran 3km to clear weeds and help out at More 2 Childcare!

What an excellent turnout last night! I'm guessing everyone's holidays have come to an end and it's time to get back up and running! And if you're like me, you need an extra excuse to drag you out of the house when it's dark.. which is why GoodGym is so perfect for those winter months! But we have some time to go before it's proper winter... let's cling on to summer for as long as we can!

Joining us last night we had not one, not two, but THREE new runners! A trio of lovely ladies Claire, Tilly and Saskia... welcome gals, hope you had a good first run with us!

We stripped it right back to basics with our intro and actually found out what everyone did for a living.. which was lovely and super interesting! Quite a broad array of jobs amongst the group... chefs, lawyers, bankers, musicians, sales people, students, construction workers, project managers... you name it and someone in GoodGym Greenwich does it!

A little warm up involving the shark game for a few minutes and then we were good to go! We headed off all together down to the task where we split off into groups. Ben C took a group to do some flyering for a bike ride event happening at the weekend in aid of the Greenwich & Bexley hospice whom we have helped on numerous occasions... so those who wanted a slightly longer run opted for that.

Meanwhile the rest of us stayed at the childcare centre and piled into the staff room while Eve explained the (many!) tasks that needed doing in and around the building. There were some bamboo plants which needed chopping down so Brin and Kirstin got onto that. The weeds out the back needed to be taken care of so Gennie and her team of ladies headed out there with her super cute ladybird head torch. Pulin and Nick attempted to dig up and loosen the soil... although it was pretty solid!!!! And then Nina and Ben P put up some noticeboards around the building using definitely not power tools.....

What a transformation!

Just as a quick side note, I'm not sure if anyone saw last night but the rooms that we painted a few weeks ago have had furniture put in and are now being used as meeting rooms and look AMAZING!!! A complete transformation! It was really great to see that all your hard work has paid off :)

So after half an hour, all the jobs were done, and just in time too because it was starting to rain. We put all the bin bags in the bins out front and then headed back to the uni to meet up with the leaflet crew!

We had a little bit of time left so did 8 minutes of uninterrupted running in laps around the square. Girls going clockwise, lads going anti-clockwise at a nice controlled steady speed with a few high fives thrown in. 8 mins later, we called it a night and had a stretch :)

Strava & Facebook!

For those of you who are new, please join our GoodGym Greenwich Facebook group. We have some exceptionally keen runners so if you ever want to organise runs outside the weekly group run please feel free! Also if you are looking for a way to track your running, get on Strava which you can download as an app on your phone or connect through your GPS watch and don't forget to join the GoodGym club on there too!

Oh and if you want to find out more about More 2 Childcare and the lovely work they do for the community, check them out here.

Thanks so much for all your help last night! We got SO much done so you should be super proud! Next week we are painting at our favourite charity shop... sign up here!
