Mrs J, an isolated and visually impaired individual requested a specific kind of help with her groceries this week.

While Mrs J is now paired with an Oxford Hub hero, supporting her with her shopping needs, weekly deliveries of food parcels to Mrs J over lockdown had started to turn her front room into her very own food bank, with far too much food for one [lady] and [her] dog!

Then, one night, after mistaking a tin of sweetcorn for a tin of pineapple pieces (not quite the potato topping she was after!!) and a lot of rustling Mrs J decided we needed to tackle the front room, to help her identify the essentials delivered in food=parcels and also to ensure there wasn't an unwanted mouse in her house, tucking into, and depleting her supplies for the weeks and months to come!

Sifting through the mountain of goods, I had to break the news to Mrs J that there had indeed been a very busy mouse, with a specific taste for her Green and Blacks Chocolate (all 3 bars were attacked!) and a fair few packets of pasta had also become victim to some knaw marks.

After anti-bac-ing around 100 tins and jars we had a proper system in place, where Mrs. J does not need to worry about mistaking a tin of custard for tomato soup. Mrs J was also very humbled by just how many stock cupboard items she had been donated that she insisted some must also be passed back into the food bank system for others to benefit from too.

When speaking to Mrs J the next day she was still incredibly grateful for us cleaning the front room, and mentioned many times how much of a weight off her mind it was that it was completed.

Hopefully her resident mouse is fully stocked for the winter months too, and doesn't miss his unlimited dry goods too much!!

(forgot to take images so here is a picture of a similar food bank collection point to the Headington Sainsbury's Local, and a mouse, for cuteness of course!)
