The Dirty Dozen

2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Islington.

Mrs D hadn't been in the garden recently. She told Kash and Sevan that she had problems with her neighbours, including their 12 cats. Apparently her neighbours place food for the cats in her garden and the cats then used it as their litter tray. We were warned to watch our step.

The mission was set out as:

  1. Remove the weeds between the paving slabs
  2. Bin a dead plant that was using up a pot
  3. Empty a large bag of compost into pots

Then over the next 30 minutes, Kash and Sevan were also asked to:

  1. Trim the climbers on the back fence
  2. Clearing the weeds from a flower bed that had been soil with a few pebbles in it
  3. To add more pebbles to the weed free flower bed
  4. To weed the pots next to the back door

They said they'd see what they could do and tried to keep track of all the things.

Kash started scooping earth into the one available plant pot while Mrs D tried to find some in the loft, eventually coming back with 4 more. That didn't seem like enough, so after another hunt around, we had 9 pots in total.

Sevan did what he usually does and hand pulled long, tall weeds and short, squat weeds from between the paving slabs. Kash on the other hand, after filling the first pot with soil, had moved on to slicing her way through the vegetation climbing up the back fence. Leaves and branches rained down to the ground like pee...tals.

Sevan moved on to weeding the flower bed, eventually finding some pebbles under there. Most looked pretty generic, though someone had taken the time to paint a couple of them. Removing some of the weeds caused tiny pods to drop, meaning that the flower bed that Sevan had just cleared was being reseeded 🤦. With that complete, next up was filling the pots with compost. Even with 9 pots and a mop bucket, there still was soil left in the crumbling bag. Well, that would ensure a return GoodGym visit in the future...

Kash and Sevan bagged up all of the cuttings, dead plants and weeds at the end of the mission, leaving Mrs D appreciative of the improvements. Mrs D hoped that there wouldn't be any weeds or wee in the garden in the near future and she would be able to start enjoying it again.
