The Community Fridge distribution team must have had a busy session today as many of the storage boxes were left empty and the recyclable waste was bursting out the door. Even with 2 volunteers it took longer than normal to clean and tidy everything, but despite this we left everything spick and span.

Merton’s Community Fridge is a long-term initiative to tackle food poverty and reduce food waste in the borough. It's essentially a big fridge where fresh surplus food is donated and redistributed to the community.

Core volunteers help with the food distribution 3 times a week and others stop in for the set up or cleanup so there are plenty of jobs to do.

Helping local people in crisis

We don’t think anyone in our community should have to face going hungry. That’s why we provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to us in crisis. We are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.
