The regular volunteers at the Polygonian Friends Lunch, hosted by St Mary’s Church, were short staffed again so I lended a hand. The prep team got straight to work assembling sandwiches and food platters with military precision. I took particular pride in my even distribution of macarons.
There were also three decadent M&S hazelnut tiramisus, though they were deemed too messy to serve as every spoon and bowl was needed for soup. Of course, someone had to make sure they didn’t go to waste… so I bravely volunteered to eat a portion myself. Oh the sacrifices we make for the cause!
It was a quieter day than usual, with no quiz or bingo, but that meant plenty of leftover soup and sandwiches to package up for those who couldn’t attend or wanted seconds. After getting stuck into washing-up duty, I was asked if I'd been a Girl Guide thanks to my practical skills - I haven't, but it might just be the best compliment I've ever received!
