Report written by Pauline Harrison
Remembrance Day has always been marked by members of my family, in honour of loved ones who served in the armed forces.
Every November, we attend parades and services at our local cenotaph.
This year, possibly due to severe weather warnings, high winds, rain and snow, the poppy wreaths had not been removed, and we were now in mid January.
Having spoken with local council officials, I was given permission to clear away as many as I could carry.
It has become a tradition that I decorate my front garden (since COVID) to reflect local and national festivals and events.
The poppy wreaths, which would have ended up in a landfill site, will now have another chance to play a part in remembering...'at the going down of the sun, and in the morning'...
