Litter picks are often surprising in relation to what you find, but its a rare occasion when something surprising happens during the course of the event.

On a cloudy Sunday morning 4 Good Gym runners joined friends of Woolwich common for their monthly litter pick. This month's pick saw the usual suspects in terms of objects being picked up along with the regular October addition of firework casings and boxes, with much of the litter being found amongst many huge mushrooms.

The main event of the the pick though had nothing to do with us, but rather featured the arrival of London's air ambulance, swooping down rather noisily to land on the common as we were making our way back to base. We watched as a crewman emerged and more crew made their way over from the hospital, with this seeming to be a routine crew transfer rather than an emergency (thank goodness). We watched the ambulance take off again to continue its important work before we moved all the full litter sacks to a collection point to complete the task.
