Tonight's mission introduced me to Chris, who, after this task, will forever be a furniture moving genius to me.

As is already evident, tonight's mission was to rearrange some furniture, this time at the home of the genial Mr A. Mr A is simply unable to move these items by himself any more and so needed GoodGym's help 💪

Arriving at Mr A's lovely home, we were shown into the room whose furniture we were to rearrange and given more tangible instructions. In short, we were to exchange the positions of a bed and a writing desk, and to move a chest of drawers abutting the desk to another wall. This was necessary after attempts to install a Murphy bed in the room were abandoned, and the single bed replacing it ate up a large amount of floor space. Something bedder could be done!

On hearing the instructions, I said that it would be no problem at all. Thankfully I was proved right 😄

After we made a rough plan of attack for the order in which we were to move everything, Chris had the great idea of standing the bed on its end against the door so that it looked like it was doing a hand stand. This gave us a lot of floor space in which to move everything else. It also meant that we didn't have to faff around moving any furniture in and out of the room, which was a big time saver.

There were only two slightly hairy moments in the whole operation. The first happened when we were moving the writing desk. As we started lifting it, we pretty quickly realised that although the countertop was moving, the bureau drawers forming the legs were left behind! Luckily, Chris could hold the countertop by himself while I moved the bureaus into their new positions. We then simply placed the countertop over them and wiggled the drawers a little until everything seemed secure again.

The second hairy moment occured when the lamp providing the sole light source for the room had to be switched off to re-plug some of the electricals post-move. Usefully, I had a head torch with me, so we could at least use that for the short time the light was out.

After 15 minutes, everything was in its new position and we showed Mr A the fruits of our labour. He was genuinely astonished that we'd completed the task, and in such a short space of time! Since we were there, he asked us if we could also move one last cupboard in the room. This necessitated moving the writing desk again (sighs), but five minutes later we were done and making our goodbyes. Hopefully Mr A will be able to enjoy the space more now that everything's been moved to a better place! 😄
