Maid Runner: Do GoodGymmers dream of wooden sheep?

2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Barnet.

An evening in Cricklewood isn't exactly the scene of post-apocalyptic dystopia (& certainly not with Paul - hello Paul! 👋), but I've been having fond memories of the wooden sheep I saw on last week's visit to tonight's host, Ms R, and so this title seems appropriate! (Let's face it, if this GoodGymmer dreams of Cricklewood's wooden sheep 🐑, it's probably because I'm Welsh)

So, tonight I met up with Paul to move some furniture for Ms R. Ms R's father is set to be released from hospital within the next week, and she needs to set up a microenvironment for him. However, a prior injury means that she is unable to do any heavy lifting herself and really needed some outside help to make some space for this. As there were no handy cyborgs available, Paul and I volunteered ourselves instead.

Ms R had a very detailed master plan for how the furniture was to be moved, which made the whole process much simpler. It was no effort for us at all to empty a cubby of some books, move a chest of drawers around and to shimmy a wardrobe across a room (no stairs!!).

This done pretty rapidly, Paul and I looked to see what else we could do. As the newly delivered hospital bed was to be placed into an area we'd recently vacated of furniture, Paul kindly volunteered to hoover the space (maid runner!) so that we could rotate the bed into it. I volunteered to take photos and to designate him as Harrison Ford/Rick Deckard in the mission report 😏 I'm certainly happy with this trade!

After everything was in its shiny new place, Paul and I had some refreshments with Ms R and chatted with her about various predictions made by futurologists in the 80's and about the evolution of technology, including some of the recent developments in biohacking. Perhaps feeling inspired by this, Paul showed off his fancy cycling lights after we made our goodbyes to Ms R, while I showed off the camera on my phone. I can't see either of us getting cybernetic implants in the immediate future though!

Hopefully our efforts tonight will mean that the rest of Ms R's preparations can go smoothly and her father will be home soon! 😄
