ONE TON OF SOIL PROVED NO MATCH FOR 14 RUNNERS LAST NIGHT AT GOODGYM EALING!

A drizzly but muggy evening saw our group meet to do our weekly dose of good in the community by helping Certitude move A TON of soil and help pack out the earth around their new path in the garden. The path was currently unsafe for the users of the centre and had become a trip hazard especially for wheelchair users so it was GoodGym to the rescue to fix the issue!

Certitude is a leading London provider of support to people who have learning disabilities, autism, mental health support needs and their families and carers. We were heading to The ARC (Activity and Resource Centre) in Perivale which acts as a hub for the many of the activities they have to support and help their users.

We were joined by brand new GoodGymer Annabel and also tourist Kate from Kingston, big welcome to them both and they were both real assets to the task!

We started with a few leg wakening exercises whilst discussing our favourite pizzas and where to get them before heading off to get our hands dirty...

No mucking around, just mucking in!

After a 2 mile run we arrived at The ARC and were briefed with the task before being shown to the huge bag of soil we needed to spread and pack into the ground around the path. No time to waste we got ourselves equip with shovels, wheelbarrows and buckets and worked as a group to start shifting the soil and distributing it around the garden where it was needed.

Burning the midnight soil...

Okay it wasn't midnight but it was getting dark and even though Jenni was in her brand new black 50 deeds t-shirt (yay!) she lit the way for us all as she's a smart cookie and remembered her head torch, next week I'll definitely be sporting mine so if you have one do bring it along! With the light fading we battled through and got the entire bag emptied and packed in the spots it was needed, such great team work and a really good work out moving all that dirt too!

A 2 mile trip back left us with no time for a fitness session this week but I think we all got an excellent workout from the task and it was great to see so many of you pushing the pace on the return journey. What a wonderful evening and a really satisfying job well done, hope to see you all again next time!
