After the sweltering temperatures of the last couple of days it cooled off a bit in time for our second visit to Prebend Gardens, at one point it even threatened rain!

We welcomed back Ben after a lengthy absence and Stu, nursing an injury and in search of a physio turned up to the briefing but then sensibly took the option of driving to the task

Various members had taken part in events over the bank holiday and so were grateful of the fairly short jog along New Walk to DeMontfort St to rendezvous with the Trainers Motor whereupon a flick of the boot revealed tonight's array of weapons aka 6 spades, 4 hoes, 2 edgers, and our usual box of litter pickers.

After a short walk crossing London Rd we let ourselves into the gardens and assessed the task. The majority of the edging along the pathway had become overgrown with soil and it needed scraping back. The group set to and quite frankly made short work of it.

There looked to be an awful lot of it but once again, with a dedicated and hardworking team even the biggest jobs can be made to look small. Being a bit of a numbers freak I decided to do a bit of pacing to see just how many metres of edging we had attended to. Members were asked to guess with the promise of a chocolate bar or cake to the winner. Rachel guessed nearest and will be duly rewarded when I get round to buying the prize. The answer... 281 metres approx.

With tools downed and the gardens locked up it was back to the car to load up.

It was then in Lindsays safe hands to organise the fitness session and the jog back to base. Using the four sides of a grassy square it was a fast downhill sprint, level recovery, uphill sprint, level recovery and repeat, then there was an attempt at the snake which I am told didn't last very long.

Enough said... see you all next week.
