Goodgym barnet was looking to support this community ‘Eco Show and tell’ event in Finchley There were numerous tables with people presenting ideas about how to live more sustainably and to initiate better Lifestyle habits. Such as vegan cooking (yummy cheesecake), cycle clubs (Women’s cycling breeze), green spaces (Tiny Forest), pollinator corridors, and forest schools.

Goodgym were there to promote sustainable activities. We do this by physically supporting local green spaces building fitness and resilience in our members. Encouraging active travel. Cycling walking, running. Discover and engage with our local environment and its communities. If we physically engage with our environment (and its communities) studies show it improves our sense of well being and connection. Active travel improves our health and of the environment.

Seems like a great initiative to show people more sustainable ways of living! Glad that GoodGym was there. Hopefully GG Barnet inspired some new recruits!

In a small and friendly space, people could hear about encouraging cycling and walking to get fit and reduce car usage, educating children about nature, our new Tiny Forest, helping bees flourish, tasting vegan cakes, growing your own food, buying locally produced honey and things made out of rubbish, improving recycling and waste collection, indoor composting of food waste and why the proposed new Edmonton incinerator is bad for people and the climate.

And this wonderful mix of things led to great conversations including:

“How do we encourage people to shop locally and not use their car?” “I went to our local high street and asked if they would give discounts for people who walked or cycled to the shop, and they happily agreed to do so”
