As myself, Leanne, Kirk and Laurie made our way down to the Sanctus allotment for our weekly session, we were in for a bit of a shock. Last week we planted Tomato plants, Cabbages and Carrots courtesy of Leanne. But, to our horror, the Cabbages had been had!! Speaking to another allotment owner, apparently Wood Pigeons are the prime suspect. They certainly haven’t left much of them so I think the Cabbages have had it. But thankfully the Carrots and Tomato plants looked healthy and showed signs of growth. The Raspberry plants are also starting to bear fruit.
On another positive note, we did find a surprise in the shed, two massive bags of compost! So for our weekly session we added the compost to two of the beds, did a bit of weeding where needed and watered the crops which have survived the week. Hopefully, next week we’ll be able to sow some seeds into the freshly composted beds! Exciting times ahead!
