With the welcome news of the COVID-19 vaccine rollout, GP surgeries are pulling out all the stops to vaccinate the highest priority patients as soon as possible. With a very short shelf life once thawed from its -70 degree storage, staff have to work fast to deliver the vaccine. I was delighted to be able to help as a volunteer marshal at a large local practice, ensuring that patients, all of whom were very elderly, were directed to the correct waiting area, and were able to make their way out via the maze of corridors after their vaccination and obligatory 15 minute observation period. Doctors, nurses, pharmacists, practice admin staff and cleaners are all putting a massive effort into the roll out, giving nearly 1000 doses in a single weekend, and it was fantastic to be a small part of it. I even fitted in a quick sprint as far as the car park, to reunite a lady who had just had her jab with her specs that she'd left in the consultation room!
