Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Ed Field (he/him)
This was one of those missions which demonstrated how an hour of your time can make an immeasurable difference to someones life.
Ms P's brother passed away a few weeks ago and her limited mobility meant that she was unable to attend the funeral which was happening halfway across the country. In an example of how technology can be a real force for good, the service was being live streamed for those unable to make it. Ms P has a large family spread across the globe and many of them would be sitting down to watch. Ms P does not have an internet connection or computer so reached out to GoodGym to see if we could help.
Latoya and I arrived just hoping the technology would work. We needn't have worried - in a few minutes we had the stream showing on her telly and Ms P pointing out members of her family as they arrived. The service was lovely, and it was a privilege to hear personal stories of Ms P's brothers life.
Once the service had finished Latoya and I chatted with Ms P about her family, her life and the changes she has seen in the local area. She moved to London 40 years ago and has lived in the same home ever since. We left feeling honoured to have been able to share such a personal moment with someone who was so willing to share it with us.
