Community spirit and engagement was high as an enthusiastic work force gathered at the** Green House Project** on Lodge Lane on Saturday, 17th November. The task of clearing an area of wasteland, in preparation for tree planting, was made even more appealing by the promise of buried treasure! Previous activity on adjoining land had left the space littered with stones and bricks, some of which were buried beneath a mix of grass and weeds: also buried were three plastic boxes containing £20, £30 **and £50** for the lucky finders. Families gathered from 10:30am and, armed with spades, forks, rakes, trowels and determination, set about filling wheelbarrows with rubble and digging over the soil...moral was high and the piles of rubble grew quickly. Bottles of flavoured water and hot drinks kept the troops going and before long the first of the treasure boxes was unearthed...£30....and soon after, £50 was recovered. The hunt was on, everyone was after the last £20. By lunchtime, the ground had been thoroughly dug over and a huge amount of rubble had been removed. A fantastic effort and great community spirit throughout meant that the task was a huge success and the ground was now ready for the next stage of the development: as for the £20, that remained undiscovered...ready for the next task on 24th November: tree planting.
