On a grey, wet Saturday, John and I arrived at the home of Mr A.

What a pleasure it was to welcome back our lovely John, after a temporary move out of the city. It was great to catch up as we worked. Welcome back John and Eimear.

Currently undergoing chemotherapy, Mr A is unable to clear his garden, for which he has amazing plans. His grandson is autistic, so Mr A is hoping to transform this cluttered, overgrown space into a bright, colourful place in which his grandson can play and learn safely. Fence panels are going to be painted in different colours and the garden shed is to be transformed.

Today's task was to remove several trees and tree stumps, which were taking up valuable space and creating trip hazards.

At first we thought that it would be a quick job, but the roots ran deep, and the rain and mud made it a little more difficult than we had anticipated.

However, with a hoe, shovel and John's special saw, we set to work, determined to succeed...and an hour and a half later, we did.

The green bin was filled, and the garden was a little clearer. We may be back to help clear the rest of the area...and can't wait to see the finished space.
