It was a very busy week at the Foodbank for Nicola to join us for her first GoodGym good deed. Go ahead and give her a cheer for getting fit and doing good with us tonight.

We had Ryan with us for this community mission for the first time, while Ben and Poppy stormed around like professionals as they had learnt the ropes last week. I joined Anthony, Louise and Rauul in being the experienced hands in the group. No matter how much we knew the task, we all got stuck in quickly.

After setting up the room, we set upon the weighing of donations from various sources. Then we started on the Tesco donations, which kept coming and coming. Boxes were being brought in on trolleys quicker than we could get them on and off the scales, with Nicola having to do lots of maths on her first go. Before long we were able to join in the manic sorting, where the workout really begins.

It was at this point that I met the can of Vegetarian Haggis. Which was a bit spooky because on the train back from the running show at the weekend I overheard a Scottish couple saying that everything is going Vegan...but haggis is the one thing you won’t see without meat. Let’s not tell them it’s being tinned already!

With all of us rushing around, we soon had everything sorted, so it was onto dating the donations. That’s when we looked at everything and realised that the Foodbank was inundated! Hurrah!

We’ve been getting used to finishing all the jobs but a look at the watch showed we had less than an hour left and we wouldn’t get it done in time. No matter, was the task leader Paulette’s response, as they wouldn’t have got much done between two of them.

So we took the chance to set up the cafe before we left and grabbed a group picture in the kitchen. Let’s see how the donations lie next week when we’ll be back again.
