Five fabulous GoodGymers found a fitting – and fun – way to start Earth Day when we gathered in Cator Park to invest our time and energy in giving young trees the care needed to nurture their springtime growth spurt. This was a first ever task for Isabelle and Martyn so there was lots of chatter while we worked in the sunshine, carefully clearing weeds and adding woodchip around the trunk of each sapling. By the end of the session, ten trees looked splendid in a neat nutrient-rich circle of mulch which will help hold moisture in the soil to feed their roots over the months ahead. There was even time to wheelbarrow more mulch over to a rose bed to help the Friends of the Park spruce up another area of this popular green space.
