Pitto the not so fitto

Thursday 26th March

Written by Bournemouth runner

Four Goodgymmers, Roger, Daryl, Keith and Lea, turned up at the Pine Cliff Gardens to do a job that their regular volunteers found too hard…. Right, sounds like the perfect task for us Goodgymmers! It started with a bag full of shears that had to be taken out of the back of a car. One of their volunteers suggested we each grab one or two to take down the steps to the garden. So Lea just picked up the whole bag and took it to where it needed to be, right!! There was a cordyline to plant that their volunteers couldn’t get out of the pot! Keith and Roger to the rescue. Plant out of the pot and into the ground. And the low pittosporum phedges round the beds that needed pruning: four Goodgymmers cleared that task in no time! Even getting the praise of Hilary, the honorary hedge lady!! Weather perfect + view perfect + Goodgymmers perfect = another task ✅

The Good Gymers

Monday 9th March

Written by Daryl Venner

Daryl meet Caprice ,(its great to see you again don't leave it so long we love to see you).Romy and her friend Gemma, who came along for the first time it's great to see you we look forward to seeing you again. We walked the short distance from the triangle to the care where we meet up with Paul who has just come back from 6 weeks in Asia. Before we started the quiz Vicky who is a 101 wrote us a poem which goes like this.On every second Monday,of each month throughout the year, Regardless of the weather,Our good Gymers do appear,Armed with many questions, And pen and paper too,Are so helpful with the questions,When we don't have a clue,So we thank you dear good Gymers, For the effort that you make,And the time you spend in giving us,A pleasant welcome break. By Vicky 101. That was so touching when she read it out. Back to the quiz we had a table top round where they had to guess the country from the outline then there was 30 general knowledge questions the scores where out of 39 the winners were the Dimwits with 23 second was the Smart Asses with 20.5 so it was very close. The evening was very enjoyable we look forward to next time .

Stuck in the Mud, litter -ally!*

Monday 2nd March

Written by Daryl Venner

Daryl and Eleanor met and left running around 4 miles in opposite directions, in between clearing up Bournemouth Gardens with their mighty litter pickers! One whole bag full was gathered (the area was reasonably tidy for once!), with the usual cans and food packets, all the like, but a star littered-tin-can shining just off the path by the shrubs would come to prove Daryl's immense dedication and determination to improve our lovely green spaces here in Bournemouth... as he well and truly got stuck in the boggy mud collecting said can, losing both his shoes and turning his white sport socks brown as he hopped to safety! (All Eleanor could do was laugh, but of course, save the trainers).

A thorny situation….

Friday 27th February

Written by Kimberley Powell (She/her)

Joanna and Kim were signed up to mow Mrs Ts lawn and trim some bushes but the soggy weather meant the lawn had to wait.

They still made a good start on the garden deciding to tackle one corner first. Mrs T used to loved garden but now she is unable to do it herself some of the bushes has gotten out of control.

They cut back brambles and dead branches of hedges and I hope you agree the before and after photos show a much improved corner of her garden! Hopefully we’ll arrange to return to get to that lawn done.
