Hi everyone and welcome to GoodGym Greenwich!
We're a friendly and social group who combine running with volunteering in the local community. We meet every Wednesday to get active and do a physical task for charities and community organisations in the area.
The Task
This week we're going to be helping the Vanbrugh Volunteers who carefully manage the wildlife habitat at Vanbrugh Pits (aka The Dips). Our task is to dig up lots of brambles as they are encroaching on the wild grassland which is important for many bee, butterfly and moth species.
The Run
The run will be about 2km each way if you run back to the Naval College afterwards. It will be an uphill run on the way there and everyone is welcome at any pace - we never leave anyone behind!
Where & When
This week we'll meet at 6.45pm for a 7pm start at the Royal Naval College on College Way between the Queen Mary and Queen Anne buildings. The what three words location is palm.latter.souk. Look out for the red Tshirts and give Rachel a call on 07952192005 if you can't find us! We should be all wrapped up by 8.30pm.
If you'd like to meet us at the task just let us know in the comments. Exact location TBC but it's right by Vanbrugh Park road, SE3 and we should be there by 7.20.
What To Bring
Please bring some gloves (if you have some) and water, otherwise it's just yourself!
See you then!
We will be: cutting back scrub and trees where they are shading out grassland and to open up sheltered spots for wildlife; digging out brambles and ivy where they are encroaching onto rarer plants; cutting back gorse to encourage fresh regrowth and so there is always a range of stages of growth for insects; carrying the cuttings to the edge of the site for the Council to remove.

This is a GoodGym group run. You'll meet other GoodGymers at the start location and run to the task together. If you can't run for more than 15 minutes without stopping or you're worried about any aspect of the session, contact your area activator Rachel Henry by email at rachelhenry@goodgym.org.
Area Activator at GoodGym Greenwich. I love community and getting to know all the great initiatives and people that make it what it is!
