We returned to a frequent Tower Hamlets halt, the Cranbrook Community Centre, to help prepare for a charity party. Fairy lights needed hanging, the kitchen had to be prepared, chairs set out and others stacked away, and balloons had to be blown up and hung.

As it turned out, the biggest task was to untangle the fairy lights, before we could hang them up with blu-tack. They'd been left in a box so had decided to tangle themselves in a seemingly impenetrable maze resembling something from ancient Crete.

Eventually, the lights were unscrambled and hung up, the other tasks completed and it was party-time!

Cranbrook Community Food Garden
Cranbrook Community Food Garden is one of the best established community gardens in east London.

This award-winning garden was designed and built from a desolate children’s playground nearly 10 years ago. The garden is maintained by residents of the estate and surrounding area, and aims to bring the whole community together to create social cohesion to this corner of Bethnal Green.
