Plogging is so 2018, poo-logging is where it's at.

On a bitterly cold Sunday morning, hardy York GoodGymers came out to find dog poo in Westfield Ward. As part of an awareness-raising campaign, we needed to help show how bad the poo problem was in this area.

Our task was to run the streets, alleys and snickleways in this part of the city, locate rogue dog poo and spray it in (biodegradable) fluorescent pink or orange. Each team reported to Poo HQ and were given their own Poogle Map to follow, they also had to fill in a log sheet so we could record the worst areas. Spraying the poo makes it highly visible so a) people are less likely to stand in it and b) it can be more easily located by a clean up team (not us, phew).

There were two surprising things about this task:

  1. Just how much poo and poo-filled bags lined the streets of Westfield

  2. Just how much GoodGymers really loved locating and spraying poo

We're having THE BEST time! - Christine and Maddy

Two hours in and only 5 of our 13 zones were completed. The poogle maps and log sheets were full and had taken the teams longer than we had anticipated. We'll be completing some secondary missions to get the other zones sprayed, so keep an eye on our social media and website to see when the next round will be.

Plenty of chances to have a go when you get back 😁

A back street grass verge was covered, and really near fences. Fun to spray colour to highlight the problem, mess to be avoided.
