It was all going so well with Mrs M's weekly shop - a quick visit to Boots en route to the world's politest supermarket and a brief refresher on the now familiar list of mostly fruit, vegetables and water. There wasn't even a queue when it came to pay.

As I was emptying Mrs M's trolley of treasure in her kitchen, my hand alighted on something that didn't feel familiar...and I discovered a flattened and somewhat discoloured shape that had clearly, once upon a time in a previous life, been an avocado and which had somehow made a break for it from a previous shopping excursion. Thankfully it was still largely in a solid state, but from then on I was a little more circumspect each time I delved back into the trolley...
