We're not bitter, collecting litter

Luton Report written by Gill (She/her)

There was a good team out to support the South Luton Litter Pick on Saturday including several brand new GoodGymers. Omar gave them a great welcome, and the local residents were so appreciative of all their efforts to collect in total 44 bags of litter. Well done to the team.

A Report With Acorny Pun

Luton Report written by David Mansfield

This week's group run took us up to Stockwood Park to collect acorns, continuing the tree seed collection for Bob the Tree Officer's new planting scheme. Theres loads of grand old oak trees here and they have given us many acorns this year so we filled a bag full in no time at all.

With those collected, next on the list of seeds to collect was holly berries, so we went down the road a bit to Kidney Wood where we'd been told we'd find some holly berries. However, completing a fruitless circuit of the dark dark woods left us empty handed. Giving up, we headed back into town but soon spotted an enormous holly bush overhanging the road with a bumper crop of shiny red berries. Moving on again we took a slight detour to Memorial Park, where a few more holly trees waited for us to finish filling our bag.

Seed swag safely stashed, we swiftly strode back into town to round off another good deed, and mark another good run, done!

A Beautiful and Productive Day

Luton Report written by Fawaz (He)

Today was one of the most enjoyable days I’ve taken part in within our community activities. We gathered with positive energy and great enthusiasm to help clean the area after the annual fireworks display.

We worked together as one team and successfully collected a large amount of litter, bags, and cardboard scattered around, helping restore the place to a clean and tidy state.

The atmosphere was wonderful, and the teamwork made the task easier and more enjoyable. It felt great to see the impact of our efforts right in front of us and to be part of an activity that reflects community responsibility and the spirit of giving.

It was truly a day full of achievement, and smiles never left our faces. We look forward to more activities like this that make a real difference in the communit.

Litterally Picking Up the Downs

Luton Report written by David Mansfield

In conjunction with a long term restoration plan by the Council's Parks team, the Luton and Dunstable Conservation volunteer team, and the Friends of Dallow Downs, the mission in the middle of our run this week was targeting litter in a neglected area of the Dallow Downs.

Previous conservation activity to clear the scrub in the wooded areas revealed a lot of litter in the undergrowth, we got in there supported by Kevin from ABCD-in-Luton with the equipment and foraged 16 bags of litter from amongst the trees. Also dragged out was some laminate flooring, several wooden pallets, a drawer and a traffic cone.

On our return journey we stopped by Brantwood park for a quick blast of sprint intervals to really stretch the legs before calling it a night.
