Wood you hold this cucumber?

Leeds Report written by Laura

On a lovely sunny, Saturday morning, 3 of us headed down to Stainbeck United Reformed Church to help the community team to sort out the waste ground at the back of the church. Helped by Liz & Lyn, we moved many, many logs to create a path and then got to task moving all the wood chip onto the path. It was quite a physical task today and we all had a good workout. Jubz kept us laughing with his antics, as usual.

Thanks for a great morning everyone!

A Ruff Day for our Littlest Members!

Leeds Report written by Laura

This morning, I joined newcomers Alice & Emily at Ash Road Allotments to help weed for Older Wiser Local Seniors.

I brought along my two little helpers, my Italian greyhounds Elphie & Arlagh who were having a whale of a time until they both stung their paws. In true over-dramatic greyhound fashion, they of course acted like they'd severed a limb but were perfectly fine by the time we got home!! :)

We managed to get the area looking a little bit better but there's always more weeds to pull out up there!

It was lovely to meet Alice & Emily & I hope to see you again soon.

Emily completed a community mission. Instead of watching TV or lying in bed, Emily was out there making their community a better place to be. For making that choice they have earned the community cape.

A Tiny Harvest and the Great Hippie Festival of 'Squashstock'

Leeds Report written by Leeds runner

Today, three GoodGymers made their way down to Kirkstall Valley Farm to help out with harvesting some courgettes for the season as well as clearing out weeds that had grown around the carrots.

A lot of the courgettes had already been harvested so we made very quick work of that and Jack and myself only managed to collect small 4-6 inch courgettes whilst Emily made her but with a large foot long courgette. After we wrapped that up very quickly, we made our way down the field where the carrots were being grown. They were not yet ready for harvesting, we had to clear out a lot of the plants and weeds that were growing around them (as well as the occasional misplaced potato).

As we were doing this, a very hippie style festival was taking place at the farm, with some interesting music. They were interested in extending their vibes to 'small amounts of sexy people' - the great start of a great cult and I wish them all the luck.

We finished the day by taking home some farm-grown vegetables, thank you Kirkstall Valley Farm.

Warm welcome to Emily and hope to see her at future sessions.
