This week saw our return to Fox Den Community Allotment for the first visit of 2026! Scott, Christopher, Catherine and Caroline slapped on some sunscreen and our gardening gloves and got stuck in. Chris and Catherine were busy shoveling, barrowing and laying woodchip to protect the ground. Meanwhile, Scott and I watered some very thirsty plants, admiring the tomatoes and potatoes and comparing to our own efforts ๐
Working up quite a sweat, it was time to head to this month's social! While Scott set off on foot, Catherine, Chris and I grabbed our bikes and took the scenic route, enjoying a riverside cycle. Heading to Engineers House, we met Ilsa and refreshed ourselves with some drinks and pizza ๐๐ป
On top of it all, we also celebrated Catherine's birthday! How lucky to have another fantastic GoodGym activity AND social on the big day ๐
Thursday 4th June

Christopher Martin earned their community cape by completing their first community mission.
Christopher completed a community mission. Instead of watching TV or lying in bed, Christopher was out there making their community a better place to be. For making that choice they have earned the community cape.

Maintaining the allotment in good condition ensures it's a great space for the local community to enjoy - many of whom don't have their own gardens or growing spaces.

GoodGymers were building character and fences this week as we supported the Strawberry Fair site team with the festival build.
Meeting volunteer coordinator, Kirsty, we donned our hi vis jackets and, after a tricky time matching hands to gloves, we were kitted out and ready to go. ๐ฆบ ๐งค
We took a tour of the site, which is bigger than ever, requiring 1000s of metres of fencing. Getting our priorities straight, we got stuck in putting up protective fencing around generators and the bar. Taking the lead from Chris, who had definitely found his calling, we lifted and shifted A LOT of heavy bases and fence panels. Supported by the site team who supplied the panels on a forklift (which Caroline was very disappointed not to be able to drive) it was a real community effort. We had great fun working together as a slick operation and getting a proper strength workout ๐๏ธโโ๏ธ
Despite being on the fence about photos, we captured some great shots of GoodGymers at work, and the team even made it onto the Strawberry Fair build video ๐ฅ (with two solo appearances from Scott โญ)
Before we left, the Strawberry Fair Comms team asked for a quick interview and Caroline did a fantastic job as the face of GoodGym Cambridge. ๐ฌ
Although timings didn't quite align for this session, it was great to meet Fufu and we look forward to seeing him at another session soon!
We go again Sunday to take it all down again ๐ช

This Thursday, Cambridge GoodGymers helped deliver donations to Cambridge City Foodbank through Greens Organise Cambridge's mutual aid initiative ๐๐ฅซ๐ซ๐ง
Catherine, Caroline, Scott and Christopher met for a bouncy warm-up and a jog along the river, working up a sweat in the evening heat. Eva joined the group to collect the donations and between them, the team loaded 5 crates of items into their backpacks! It was a rather weighted walk to the foodbank but all the donations were happily received, and the team felt very proud of their efforts ๐
Practically skipping back with their bags now emptied, the group got some more steps in on the 2.5km walk across to Thirsty for this month's social. Nick joined and everyone raised a glass to all the good deeds achieved this month ๐ป
Over the next few hours, the team relaxed with plenty of laughter, chats about superconductors and property law, tricky beer decisions, shared pet photos and some impressive multitasking by Eva with a beautiful embroidery piece ๐ชก
Apparently keen to get even more steps in, some of the gang succumbed to the temptation of Jack's and jogged into town for some late-night gelato. Double (double) tinies all round! ๐ฆ
What a fabulous evening and a fantastic way to bring together members of the GoodGym Cambridge team. We're looking forward to next month's social already, and all the good deeds in between!
