No time for swanning around...

Derby Report written by Rachel Carthy

Ashley, Mandy and Rachel made their way to Wilmorton Recreation Ground and Alvaston Park to tidy up some litter and keep these amazing green spaces looking their best for visitors and for wildlife.

Three full bags of litter were collected and lots of friendly locals thanked the group for their efforts. The rain held off which was much appreciated although it would have helped clean up a golf ball that was found and collected to be passed on to a keen golfer.

We plough the fields...

... and leave it to someone else to scatter. Ashley, Naomi, Mandy and Pete met once again at the church along with our leader David and helper Heath to create some beds suitable for wild flowers. By the time Ashley and Naomi turned up most of the hard work had already been done. After a bit more raking and picking up debris the team left the site looking clean and ready for the wild flowers to be sown.

No chance of dampening our spirits

Derby Report written by Rachel Carthy

Ashley and Rachel took on Derby city centre in the rain to help clear the streets of litter.

There were lots of the usual food packaging items like burger wrappers, chocolate bar wrappers and cups still full of drinks as well as a pair of sliders that someone must have abandoned thinking it was easier to walk barefoot during the downpour.

The route took a loop around the city centre and bags were left by a bin for collection.

Sorry no photos....I couldn't feel my hands all session. I've used a photo from a previous session.

Thanks to Ashley for making it out for another GoodGym volunteering session.

You're really growing on me....

Derby Report written by Rachel Carthy

Ashley, Pete and Rachel were summoned back to St Matthew's Church to remove some unwanted ivy from a boundary wall, to prevent any damage to the wall and to clear one of the main pathways into the churchyard, making it more accessible for visitors.

A whole section of ivy was removed from a wall and the path was made much more accessible and inviting, with overgrown bushes cut back and low hanging branches removed.

This was a real transformation session where it was clear to see an improvement from the before and after, great to see what a difference can be made by three volunteers in a short space of time.

David from the church thanked us for the progress made and we were really appreciative of the biscuits he brought to fuel the session.

Thanks to Ashley and Pete for helping out and bringing their own gardening tools on what was actually a pretty mild evening spent in the churchyard.
